Publisher's Summary

Ava's had a hard life, and it's about to get a whole lot tougher!

The deck is stacked against 29-year-old Ava. She’s a fighter, but she’s got trust issues and doesn’t always make the best decisions. Despite her natural beauty, she doesn’t score well in the self-esteem department. Her personal complications aren’t without merit, but America is on the verge of a second civil war, and Ava must pull it together if she wants to survive.

Ava has just lost her adoptive mother to cancer. Her fiancé broke off the engagement shortly after her mom got sick. She has no idea who her biological father is and her adoptive dad walked out on his family for the sweet young thing at the office 15 years ago. With such a long history of loss and abandonment, it’s understandable why she’s hesitant to put her faith in people, but now it’s affecting her relationship with God.

Meanwhile, the tentacles of the deep state have infiltrated every facet of American culture. The public education system, entertainment industry, and mainstream media have all been hijacked by a shadow government intent on fomenting a communist revolution in the United States. The antagonistic message of this agenda has poisoned the minds of America’s youth who are now convinced that capitalism and conservativism are responsible for all the ills of the world. Violent protest, widespread destruction, and politicians who insist on letting the disassociated vent their rage will bring America to her knees, threatening to decapitate the laws, principles, and values on which the country was founded.

Ava refuses to give into fear, but she simply cannot survive on her own. She must deal with her crisis of faith and learn to trust other people, or she’ll never make it through the bloodiest period of America’s history.

A review from someone who isn't religious

I figured I'd write this review from a standpoint of someone who isn't religious. The story is great, this is my first Mark Goodwin book but I'd be inclined to read more from the author if the story suites my taste. I've listened to all 3 Ava's Crucible books and the characters are well written and even likable. Eva, the protagonist, starts the series as a damaged woman who has a hard time trusting men. She eventually teams up with a crew of fighters who rebel against an administration who stole the election. Each chapter starts with a bible verse and the book is somewhat focused on Christianity but it doesn't impede the story in my opinion. The author does go on a couple of rants about how porn is destroying is our country and about abortion so if religion or others opinions offend you, you may want to find another post apocalyptic civil war novel to read. All in all I thought it was a pretty good read and I recommend it to anyone who follows politics closely or is interested in reading a worse case scenario of the political unrest in our country. The voice actor also does a pretty good job of keeping you engaged. The Christian viewpoints are there but they don't impede the story or the characters. 4/5 stars.

Excellent start to a new series

Mark Goodwin is one of my favorite authors. He did an excellent job creating “real”, well-thought out characters who are struggling with everyday problems and are faced with societal breakdown. I love the way he weaves faith and God into the story, and includes Bible verses to support his chapters. I also really enjoy the little tips he throws in there to teach us ways to become more prepared for hard times. I feel this book is timely and thought-provoking. I didn’t want to put it down.

This is the first book I listened to that was narrated by Stacey Glemboski. She did a great job hooking me into the story, keeping me entertained and enjoying her narration. She has a way of letting the material flow smoothly, at a consistent and realistic pace. Excellent performance.

Another Winner

What was one of the most memorable moments of Divided We Fall: A Post-Apocalyptic Novel of America's Coming Civil War ?

When Ava decided to follow The Lord rather than give up.

What about Stacey Glemboski’s performance did you like?

Everything was great

If you could take any character from Divided We Fall: A Post-Apocalyptic Novel of America's Coming Civil War out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Silly

Any additional comments?

This is another great novel by Mark. The similarities and analogies to our modern day America is fantastic. Very engrossing and has me on edge waiting for the next book in the series.

Made Me Think

This is the second time that I have listened to this book. Each time I learn more about the potential need to be prepared. Disasters like flood, tornadoes and even civil unrest. To be prepared makes sense. If I am not hit with a disaster, likely someone I care about will. Everyone is better off if we work together to survive.
