Publisher's Summary

A shocking true tale of childhood abuse at the hands of a stranger.

Sophie Jenkins is living a happy life in the idyllic Dorset countryside when she meets Martin Brett, the man who will go on to abuse her and haunt her dreams for years to come. A momentary act of neglect leads to a horrible series of events that leaves her changed forever. Badly let down by the adults entrusted to care for her, Sophie’s life begins to spiral downward.

However, Sophie’s message is ultimately one of hope and empowerment. She is in the process of rebuilding her life when fate leads her to encounter her childhood attacker once again. The story ends with a truly shocking climax.

Warning: This audiobook is based upon a true story of child abuse and contains passages that some listeners may find disturbing. All names and places have been changed to protect the identities of the innocent. (Cover photograph is posed by a model and is used for illustrative purposes only.)

Narrator choice ruined it for me.

This is Kate Skylark’s first book on child abuse.

I listened to her second book, “ Daddy’s Wicked Parties, “ before this one.

I gave that 5 stars in all 3 categories.

Apparently, Kate has grown as an author.
Her second book was a much better book.
Dirty Dog was a major disappointment by comparison.
Very annoying to listen too.

The narrator had a pleasant voice, and was easy to understand.
The trouble with the narration was not the narrator’s fault, but the choice of a too mature sounding narrator. Whatever her age, she sounded like a woman in her fifties, or older. These books need someone that can basically, become one with the subject, sound childlike, and give you the impression that you are listening to the person abused. The narrator altered her tone, was not monotone, but just didn’t come across in her miscast role.

I stopped listening with an hour to go. I couldn’t take it anymore.

Violated, by Sarah Wilson, had a professional narrator, who was so convincing, that after 90 minutes, I had to check to see if the abused subject was narrating the book. The narrator really did become one with the subject. That book was narrated as if it was taking place while I listened, as was Kate Skylarks second book. By contrast, Dirty Little Dog, was narrated as an old memory.

I look forward to Kate Skylark’s next Audible book.

Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your story. It was well written some of the details were hard to listen to. I feel that this may have been due to the fact that I myself am a survivor. However, surprisingly I found the book therapeutic. Thank you again

Honesty

I'd love to read all Kate has written, I feel this is a sad epidemic in the world who's victims have been forced into the shadows to suffer in silence and fear. Bravo for telling their stories. It was a great read as is the other offering on Audible

Terribly Sad

The book was good and told the story it needed to. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator, but would listen to her again if needed.

Always learning what to look for

As many of these stories I have listened to, each one still leaves me heartbroken and horrified. This girl was incredibly strong & the grace she has handled this abuse with is impressive. Every one of these subjects I have read/listened to teaches me something else to watch for. Always learning what signs to watch for and hoping I can help any child that is in such an awful situation!

heart breaking

The 5 stars is purely for the bravery that the author had to endure.

This is a great book to expose 1 of countless little tricks that is used by child predators all over.

The book is well written, articulate and definitely clutches at the heart stings.

great book.
