Publisher's Summary

One morning in April 1924, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher finds herself in a most unenviable position. Despite her best attempts to elude the inevitable, she must face her darkest fears and with all the strength and courage she can muster, must confront the one person she has tried hardest to avoid - the dentist. But upon arriving for her appointment, she finds the waiting room deserted and adjoining examination room locked, with no hint of either Dr. Talmadge or his nurse. Thinking to leave quietly, Daisy's retreat is halted by the return of the nurse and, with the help of Mrs. Talmadge, the two begin searching for the inexplicably absent doctor. Exhausting all other possibilities, they resort to looking once again in the surgery where they find him stilling in his dentist's chair with the nitrous mask strapped to his face, the tank of nitrous turned on full, a smile on his face and stone-cold dead.

While the circumstances of his death are out of the ordinary, there's no reason to suspect that it was anything other than a tragic, if inevitable, accident of a careless dope fiend. Certain that there is something more than happenstance and an accident involved in the dentist's untimely death, Daisy is determined to uncover the truth behind a case of what she is certain is murder most foul.

Very enjoyable

The series continues to improve with the introduction of some new characters, friends of Daisy, and continued character development. Now that we have a good handle on the characters, the machinations between them are more complex letting each character shine and grow. On to the next book!

5 stars

This series gets better and better. Die Laughing is an entertaining and interesting book. I love the way Daisy and Alec work together to solve mysteries. This mystery was particularly interesting and well written. The people created for this story are very realistic with easily relatable problems. The portrayal of Daisy's and Alec's relationship as a modern and forward thinking couple is also realistic and enjoyable. I look forward to reading other books in this series.

A different insight

Although stories about manors and castles are fun, this book gives an insight into the lives of London’s middle class in the 1920’s. Thumbs up!

Enjoyed the story, quite a few colorful characters. would have loved it more if not for constant interruption in narrative close to the end.

Good story

Lucy rayne is an excellent narrator! I love her voices and accents! This story was better than some of the other “Daisy” books, even though I guessed “whodunnit” very early in the book.

enjoyed

Delightful and so interesting. I do agree with a lead character, there were to many suspects. I had to go over some parts twice but I enjoyed the book.

Another spiffing read!

1920s, England, friendship, family-dynamics, situational-humor, verbal-humor, cosy-mystery, murder-investigation, law-enforcement, scandal, relationships, historical-novel, historical-research*****

This one is more of a soap opera than a farce, but it's still funny and the sleuthing is pretty good. The publisher's blurb is a fair hook but doesn't even mention the dreaded mother-in-law. Spiffing good read.
Lucy Rayner does a fine job of narrating.

one of the better one of the series

I generally enjoy this series and find most of the mysteries entertaining. That said this was a particularly strong mystery to me. Good characters, good motives, and a good locked room set up.

i also really enjoyed seeing Daisy and Alec settled into their domestic lives, Daisy's friends in the neighborhood, and how her life has changed. I really enjoyed this one a lot and how it advanced Daisy and Alec's marriage

Alec's voice could be improved

Although Rayner performs most characters well, especially female ones, Alec sounds dim- witted and flat.
