Publisher's summary

Diamonds and Devils is a story of the life of Roger Holt who grew up as a gay boy with an Evangelical pastor-father, and later became a minister in a predominately LGBTQ congregation. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes disturbing, but always engaging, Roger's story takes the listener through a life of discovery and challenges. It explores finding and losing religion. When the elderly preacher-father shows up with dementia at his grown gay son’s doorstep, there are shattering revelations. Will they create the final breach in the family, bring ultimate healing, or are some things never resolved?

This book is essential for anyone who has had a troubling childhood or is struggling with coming out. It is also a must-listen for anyone wanting to follow a fast-moving, fascinating life and story. Told with frequent humor, sensitivity, and candor, it's a most intriguing story of human relationships and forgiveness. This may be the most compelling, heartwarming story you will hear about coming of age as LGBTQ in America.

awesome roller coaster ride!

what can I say besides what a great book! I felt as if I was sitting with the author listening to the whole life story in person. found myself asking many times what could be next on this roller coaster of emotions. what an amazing life to live and even better story to hear! the author really delivered with the tone and emotion with reading. I felt his words and felt the pain. Awesome book and I recommend to everyone. And I'm not a huge book person so this was awesome for me!

This book moved me to laugh and to tears

Deeply felt and resonant narration by the author, this story captures the challenges of growing up in the heartland in the fifties - a moving journey from childhood to adulthood. We get to know this family: what drives them, their strengths and their weaknesses as they struggle to deal the best they can with dysfunction, financial hardship and social ostracization. Coming out and into adulthood the author grows beyond the limitations his childhood could have imposed, and finally confronts the dark secrets and demons that he and his family have endured.
