Publisher's Summary

Nevada Frida Baylor and Connor Ander Rogan cordially invite you to join their wedding celebration. Summoning, weather manipulation, and other magical activities strictly forbidden.

Catalina Baylor is looking forward to wearing her maid of honor dress and watching her older sister walk down the aisle. Then the wedding planner gets escorted off the premises, the bride’s priceless tiara disappears, and Rogan's extensive family overruns his mother’s home. Someone is cheating, someone is lying, and someone is plotting murder.

To make this wedding happen, Catalina will have to do the thing she fears most: use her magic. But she’s a Baylor, and there’s nothing she wouldn't do for her sister's happiness. Nevada will have her fairy-tale wedding, even if Catalina has to tear the mansion apart brick by brick to get it done.

Narrator was a disappointment

Renee Raudman, one of my favorite narrators, only read the opening. The rest of the book was read by someone else and she is only ok.

A bit more please

I have listened and read everything Ilona Andrews has put out but when they announce a change of narrator I was a bit crushed. Reneé Raudman has been hands down one of the best narrators ever. But with that being said Emily Rankin was also great. She really brought Catalina to life. This story was more so about her and the struggles of finding yourself and your own voice. I really understand her a lot more now and I am just as invested in her story as I would be with Nevada. Rogan’s mother is everything i had hoped she would be as well. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I can hardly wait for the next book...

What a wonderful novella... Figuratively, this is a passing of the baton... Nevada is getting married, and is passing her duties of running the family owned detective agency to her sister Catalina... and even before the marriage takes place, Catalina gets her first job...

This story is actually a service to Ilona's fans, who self describe themselves as the BDH (Book Devouring Horde), but in reality, this would be a great place to step into the series, even if you've never read the previous stories! Ilona Andrews is extremely adept at giving just enough backstory, without inundating you with detail!
This is Catalina's first real appearance as a solid character... and Catalina is Absolutely Awesome! She gets to exercise her power, without a catastrophic outcome, and Leon is more than ready to play backup to protect Catalina and the rest of his family. Oh yeah, you're gonna love Leon... just wait and see!

This audio book is narrated by a familiar favorite, Renee Raudman playing Nevada and a new voice for Ilona Andrews fans, Emily Rankin who plays Catalina, and I loved listening to this tale. This was was a sneaky fun intro, so the fans get a taste of Emily's work as she takes over narrating the Hidden Legacy series, Catalina's POV.

...And as intended, I can hardly wait for the next book!

Moving on...

Short, fun, but like so many, I missed really touching base with Navada and Rogan. Renee Raudman narrated the beginning of this book, the prologue that belonged to Nevada. Emily Rankin took over when the POV switched to Catalina Baylor, Nevada's younger sister, and the main protagonist in this story. This is a transition book, closing out--mostly--the story arc that was Nevada and Rogan's and moving onto the younger members of the Baylor family, most notably Catalina, who is a siren. Watching her coming into, at least partially, her own was a pleasure. There's bad relatives, a theft, secrets, and a bit of wedding mayhem to keep the action going. There's hints of future romance for Catalina, though not enough to actually label this book as a romance, and perhaps a a clue about the secret identity of an evil mastermind wh0 was hinted at at the end of WILDFIRE. I'm going to miss Renee's narration, though Emily did a decent job. I'm looking forward to new installments. #UrbanFantasy #MagicAndMayhem #FemaleProtagonist #ComingOfAge #ParanormalSuspense #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Passing of the torch done right!

In many ways this book is passing the torch. Not only did we get a new heroine but a new narrator too. (good choices, marketing!) I can't wait for Catalina's first full book. (and hopefully we'll see Alessandro too.) This book was fun, funny, and made me ready for more. I did guess part of the plot but there is a lot going on here. New narrator is good, I will need to associate her versions of the voices now but it won't be too bad. I think they should have Raudman help coach Rankin for the first book maybe.

Catalina is different from Nevada, so far in a good way. These differences are enough so that we can have new twists and still continue the overall plot with no issues. I like seeing the same characters through the eyes of another. The different POV helps us explore familiar characters in new ways.

Catalina Steps Forward

This novella moves the series forward from the viewpoint of Catalina, the next oldest sister, as she works to organize her sister Nevada’s marriage to Connor Rogan. We get to observe her growing into her confidence and maturity as she deals with each challenge that comes up - the theft, the catering break in, exposing family shenanigans; then dealing with it all. The tiara thief was who I thought it was, but I still enjoyed it. It was very satisfying when Catalina caught the person behind the break-in.
And it’s really interesting where the story ends with Mrs Rogan offering to help teach and mentor Catalina.
I will definitely be looking forward to the next book featuring Catalina.

I’m sad that this is probably Raudman’s last narration for Andrews - she’s done a wonderful job, and is one of my favorites.
Rankin is a well established narrator, but I have no previous work of hers in my very extensive library of audios. While she has a pleasant voice, her reading sounded so flat and slow after Raudman. I didn’t expect that since my default listening speed is 1.25; and I often listen at 1.5.

Loved it! I liked Catalina in first three books but I absolutely adore her here. I am looking forward to her story and the story of the rest of the family in the future :)

A view into the next generation

This is the next installment in the Hidden Legacy series, where a marriage of two houses is being planned. Catalina is tested and comes into her own. It lacks some of the finesse of a full length novel, but for a novella, it tides us over until the next novel can come out. It whets the appetite for what is to come and passes the torch to the next head of House Baylor.

Catalina comes into her own in this book. It gives you a taster of what’s to come. You learn more about her powers, I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
