Publisher's summary

Make your stand against the darkness with this comprehensive stunning artifact handed down by the Horadric Order, your key to the lore of Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo® franchise.

Amid the restless evil of Sanctuary, only the Horadrim, an ancient order of heroes and scholars, wield the knowledge needed to light the way for humanity. In the Book of Lorath, join Lorath Nahr, one of the last of the dwindling Horadrim, on a journey through Sanctuary's most powerful relics and the stories behind them. It is Lorath's hope that this volume will preserve his knowledge for all time . . . and pass it down to those who will inherit the fight against the Prime Evils.

Direct from the Diablo® development team and award-winning author Matthew J. Kirby, this immersive, must-have compendium showcases the artifacts that have often been, and might yet be, the key to tipping the fate of the world.

Excellent narration

The narrator, Ineson, is fantastic as always. I’d listen to him read a spreadsheet and I’m pretty sure he’d still make it compelling. The content itself was enjoyable - the encyclopedia entries (artifact descriptions, etc) were interesting, but the really good parts were the travel journal entries. They make me wish this was a straight novelization instead of this more encyclopedia/journal hybrid.
Still really good though. I recommend it if you’re a fan of the game/the lore.

Loved it!! Must have as a Diablo fan.

First of all, Ralph Ineson could probably read the phone book and make it sound great. However, he gives a legitimate dramatic performance as Lorath Nahr for this and I was in heaven. I bought the hardcover book since it's a continuation of the plot line with bits of lore from previous games, written from the perspective of Lorath. When I found out the actual VA did the audio book I immediately bought that too. Having Lorath read you the book while you're turning the pages is definitely the optimal experience. (Especially since there's lines of text he's crossed out that show even more thoughts he had and second guessed.) Mr. Ineson gave a wonderful performance! I was not expecting to get emotional but a few scenes really got to me in a big way. No spoilers, but I'll never think of Westmarch the same way again. They also had me laughing about Wirt and his poor leg. If you're a fan of the Diablo series this is FULL of lore and references. Truly cannot recommend this enough.

This a must for Diablo fans

This is a must-read for Diablo fans. it does not matter if you play the game or just read the novella. Lothar, of course, is the main character, and on his travels, He not only describes what is happening in the moment but gives a detailed account of each artifact.

Fantastic tie in to the games

I loved the narration by Ralph Ineson; his tone, pacing, and channeling of the character Lorath Nahr were perfect. Lots of hints and foreshadowing for future in-game content, if I don’t miss my guess. The Diablo books make the game’s universe feel so much more tangible; love them!

Perfect for enjoyers of Lore

It’s a well written book on various lore points from all of the games, from D2 to D4 and even Immortal. If you’ve played even some of these games, it’s great to hear names of things your characters have personally held as well as what may come to D4 in the future.

Informative and Well-Read

Ineson does the same great job he does in the games. This title is basically a whole book's worth of in-game audio logs regarding various relics / items of power in Sanctuary.

The lore and insights are interesting if you're a fan of Diablo's world and story. The biggest portion of lore (it's very briefly mentioned, almost glossed over even) that I was unaware of before now is the fact that both the Cow Level and Whimsyshire are canon and have in-world lore explaining them?!

EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!

I now have a burning desire to know more on this subject, so if you're a member of the horadrim in need of an apprentice, give me a call.
