Really good

It accurately describes the strategic situation, the decisions of the leaders, as well as the hell soldiers and civilians, must have gone through in the battles for Normandy. The book also contains excellent maps to make the situation understandable.

pearls of wisdom

All-in-all, there is nothing much here for the experienced reader in the subject, but much for the person needing a starting point for an understanding of the invasion which led to the success of the Allies war in Western Europe

The book is cool

I appreciated it, wholeheartedly. Superbly well laid out, well-planned, well-written, this is the story of an enormous undertaking that brought out the very best and the very worst in people... people from both sides of the conflict.

the author nailed it

This book not only describes the D-Day landing superbly but then traces the following days and the incredible troubles we had in over taking the Normandy region. Does a great job tell both sides and our many screw-ups that caused so many needless deaths?

Excellent history book

The mood of the author, in describing the personal destruction, loss of life and livelihood seemed to be focused on the side of the allies. Those losses would never have occurred were it not for the Axis aggression. It is, however, a good book.

suggest this book

Very vivid memories and very lucky to get such good care considering the casualty load. My arm was so badly broken the fair, at times graphic treatment of the invasion that would bring a successful conclusion to, perhaps the deadliest war in history.

the best book ever

Captivating History does an excellent job of detailing the tedious efforts of the Americans to break through the bocage and the British to take and then break out from Caen.

Battle of Normandy

I would definitely recommend this book, great information on D-Day and the Normandy Campaign... Research in this part of the book is solid and Captivating History provides insight from a German command perspective also.

Very short but informative

Gets you into the timeframe of the situation at hand dealing with logistics, manpower, secrecy, weather. Provided revealing insights into the character and failings of numerous military officers in charge of the invasion of Normandy in June of 1944.

About WWII

This is one of the best books. A recounting of the landings and the breakout from Normandy - The book gets at the nitty-gritty and blood of a very hard-fought campaign.

So I think it is a good history book

It covers all of the Armies and Navies involved and their complete efforts in the battle for northern France. As it is told in chronological order, it made following the story much more interesting.

A Fascinating Guide

So much new material, wonderfully written. The author does a heroic job of marshaling this material into a well-coordinated, literate account of D-Day. A thoroughly engrossing book. Highly recommended!

Very interesting

Make you appreciate the sacrifice made by ordinary men, the genius of this operation and the errors made by generals lacking information or audacity. You have to respect the resistance offered by the German lacking air support and fighting for every inch of terrain.

Awesome

A nice overview of the weeks following D day. The sacrifice of Normandy for France is often poorly understood but nicely explained in this book

Time review which found the book interesting and factual. I was especially interested in the increased amount of detail which the author compiled from various sources from both sides of the conflict.

Great guide

The actual battle was long and difficult as it stretched over almost two months. This book provides a lot of detail from the planning through the airborne operations and the landings but then on and on and on as the battle continued to the eventual breakout.
