For millions worldwide, the Devi Mahatmyam is of central spiritual importance and of equal cultural significance within Indian Sanskrit literature to the Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata, and the Ramayana. Also known as the Shri Durga Saptashati (700 verses to Goddess Durga), it forms a major part of the Markandeya Purana (dating from around 550 CE) and remains the prime focus of festivity and devotion to the Divine Mother during the nine nights of Navaratri.

Listening to this story nurtures a strong positive feeling of protection and well-being within the Heart chakra, stimulates the energy of the sternum bone that produces the antibodies that fight infection, and is of particular benefit to mankind today, as the world struggles to cope with the many physical and psychological challenges and the increasing pressures of modern life. Not superficial but not overly technical.

A great introduction, thanks to this rendition I seek to learn more and now in an easy, inquiring and playfully inquisitive way.

I loved every moment. Felt like I was completely transported to a different realm. It's a must have for everyone especially INDIANS, who have grown up with the Devi Mahatmayam but don't have a real clue what's it about.

Gorgeous translation and Tim Bruce’s narration is an absolute treasure. I haven’t found a translation of Hindu scripture I’ve liked this much. Admittedly I was not super excited about the prospect of listening to this story from the voice of a white guy but Tim Bruce proved me wrong. His performance was exciting, dynamic, respectful of the source material, and just simply beautiful. Well done. Jai Maa!
