Publisher's summary

Romance is in the air on this detour to love.

High-flying executive Celia Scott is on her way to Tokyo to accept a prestigious award, heavy with emotional baggage. She’ll make the trip, but she doesn’t have to like it, and she certainly doesn’t have to make nice with a stranger on a plane.

Artist Lily Andersen is excited to finally meet her online crush, the only person in the world who truly gets her. She just needs to survive the 11-hour flight from London to Japan with a testy seatmate who by turns annoys and fascinates her.

Fate, upgrades, and a troupe of travelling clowns bring them together for a journey memorable for all the wrong reasons. Not only do they have nothing in common, they really can’t stand each other. But people are not always as they seem, and Celia and Lily are about to realize, there’s more than one path to love.

Amanda Radley taught me to love stories in which travel forces together unlikely protagonists

And Detour to Love is a top-notch incarnation of the scenario (it's too well-rounded to be a formula) in which two women of very different temperament and professional status (and in this case, age and even apparent sexual orientation) literally discover and come to cherish one another through a series of travel-induced crises. The romance is fade-to-black and reserved for the later chapters in a story driven by the gradual cementing of the unexpected bond between Lily (the artistic ingenue whose adventure turns traumatic) and Celia (the savvy businesswoman hiding a terrible grief). We are taken from London to Tokyo and back, with detours to Copenhagen and Edinburgh, and each journey adds a palpable dimension to their world. Celia is the one with clown-issues: Radley's sly humor shines in those encounters, but Celia is funny from the start. Amy Putt does a superb job with the narration, switching between voices and accents with great skill. 5 Stars+!

Zany, witty, sweet and even deep

Strongly recommended even if the age gap premise is implausible. The story is one of the best in this genre. Well done accents by this narrator so each character is distinct.

Cute British Romance with Traveling Clowns

(ok so the clowns are only at the airport and on a plane... )
I loved both women in this audiobook! There's a younger book illustrator and an older, sarcastic, funny, super rich business woman who meet on a trip to Tokyo. They don't get along at the beginning of the trip and sparky dialogue ensues. They both had emotional things going on in their own worlds, and eventually they started to help one another get through things. They fall for each other, of course. just to let anyone know, there was no sex in this book. Still, it was a great listen that made me smile often. The narrator was amazing. Couldn't decide which woman's voice was sexier!

Best Writer and Narrator!

I love Amanda Radley's book. Always a refreshing, funny, and sweet love story. I read the physical book, and I listen to this audiobook because of Amy putt, as she always does a fantastic job. She is one of my favorite narrators. Favorite writer and narrator, and I enjoyed every second of it. I cannot wait for her next book and obviously audiobook as well.
