Publisher's summary

The love of a lifetime hasn't always been easy . . .

Stefano—Phoenix Commander

They'd known each other for over thirty years, been together for a good portion of those years, and had lived in the same house for the past two. Still, Giovanni Rossi wouldn't tell people they were a couple. Their family and friends suspected they were together, but nothing had ever been confirmed. And frankly, Stefano hated all the secrecy. Maybe Rossi didn't want to make it official between them. Or maybe it was as simple as, Rossi wanted to live a straight life for the public. Bottom line? Stefano is tired of living in Rossi's closet.

Rossi—Phoenix Chief

How the hell had he gotten into this predicament? His boyfriend, who on all accounts should have been his husband years ago, had left him. And Rossi had only himself to blame. Now he had to use his elite team of operatives to find the man who held his heart. If he had to, he'd toss Stefano over his shoulder and carry him home. But what if that didn't work? Well then . . . he would have to come up with something else to convince Stefano to give him another chance. Because there's no way in hell Rossi is going to live without him.

Contains mature themes.

This was a good story ending for this series.

I have enjoyed several of these series that Reece Knightley has written. I have listened to several of them but spread far apart and decided to listen to this series again before listening to Stefan’s and Rossi story to bring everything current for the things that could take place in their story. Glad I did. I’d forgotten a lot of the other’s stories. Good story for them.

a long time coming

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting plot
I enjoyed Gio and Stefan's story ... although Gio not coming out to his Men for so long was a bit of a stretch given how many of them are gay ... but it is what it is. This HEA has been a long time coming and if you're going to make a grand gesture ... do it big with an elite team of soldiers on your six!
The story was generally a little less explosive compared to the others in the series ... but these two are supposedly older and wiser - I enjoyed glimpses into their history and watching their relationship evolve over the years.

🎧 Tristan James was a good choice of narrator for this series and he did a great job with the narration. Each character had his own voice and was consistently maintained throughout the series. I had no problem distinguishing characters and his rhythm, inflections and intonations all worked to bring the characters to life.

Finally!

Thank goodness Rossi and Steph finally made true commitment and went public. Loved the way Reese Knightly wove stories from when they first met in their early 20’s and again and again throughout their lives into the men in their late 40’s current time.
