Publisher's Summary

In Devil's Gate

As a coroner, medusa Seremela Telemar has always felt more comfortable chatting over a dead body than over drinks. But when her wild niece, Vetta, runs off to Devil's Gate, a lawless town that has sprung up overnight in a modern-day gold rush, she knows she has to extricate her before the rebellious girl gets into real trouble. Though she's confident in her head snakes' ability to defend her against attackers, Seremela is still a bit nervous about braving this modern-day Wild West by herself.

Vampyre Duncan Turner is not about to let his new co-worker go into that chaos alone. His Vampyric power and lawyer smarts make him the perfect ally, and the fact that he already had his eye on Seremela for more personal reasons, doesn't hurt matters. Any romantic thoughts pull up short, however, when they arrive at Devil's Gate and learn Vetta is set to hang by morning.

In order to save Vetta and themselves, Seremela and Duncan are going to have to fight fire with force and magic with fangs. And pray they make it out of Devil's Gate alive.

In Hunter's Season:

As a palace guard and assassin for the Dark Fae, Xanthe always wore a mask, hiding her emotions to do her duty. But when her identity is compromised, she trades undercover work for guarding Queen Niniane - a position that often brings her in contact with Chancellor Aubrey Riordan. Aubrey's trust is shattered. A year ago his wife tried to assassinate their new queen in his name, a betrayal of everything he believes in. And now an attack on his life is proof the dark conspiracy is not yet over. Although injured and weak, Aubrey can't help but be drawn to this shy assassin and loyal protector. Xanthe is everything Naida wasn't, and the passion she stirs in him is something he thought had long passed him by.

Another Great Listen in a Favorite Series

Each addition to the series brings readers further into the Elder Race world. The characters are unique, each with thier own powers, personalities and backstories. The story is packed with action, intrigue and romance. It's the perfect combination when combined with the high quality narration to bring readers a paranormal treat.

I review for the Guilty Indulgence Review Site.

Another great, quick Elder fix

A vampire, a medusa, and two dark fay all find love through the destiny of the tarot.

Also, you see the fates of characters met in prior books. Always a satisfying read.

Another great, quick fix for this Elder Races junkie!

Love Seremela and her head snakes!

**Devil's Gate**
-- 5 stars
I think one of the things I have enjoyed most about Seremela's character (who first appeared as the medical examiner in Storm's Heart and was seen again in Serpent's Kiss) is her head snakes. They are curious and often unruly. Despite being so deeply connected to Seremela, they seem to have personalities and minds of their own. I often found them quite hilarious. Harrison did a great job giving life to the head snakes and fully incorporating them in the story. In any given situation we see reactions from Seremela, Duncan, and Seremela's head snakes. I would've been sorely disappointed had the snakes not been so integrated into the story. I was not disappointed in the slightest.

Tying into this is Duncan's character and how he is uniquely suited for Seremela (and her head snakes). With the snakes being such an integral part of Seremala, one cannot have one without the other. The head snakes like Duncan (a lot) and wish to show it. Duncan goes beyond merely tolerating the head snakes. He loves them too. Others often find them snakes disgusting and sometimes treat Seremela almost like a pariah because of them - segregating her from the general population. Without his whole-hearted acceptance (and enjoyment) of the head snakes, I wouldn't have believed them them to be a good match.

**Hunter's Season**
-- 4.5 stars
Of the two books included in Destiny's Tarot, this was my least favorite. While I really liked Xanthe and also like Aubrey, I wasn't able to get into the book as much as the other. The book seemed a bit abbreviated and quite as smooth as Devil's Gate, but was still enjoyable.

Novella goodness to fill in the blanks

Two very good novellas that bring HEA to secondary characters.
Devil’s Gate: Seremela Telemar and Duncan Turner of Storm’s Heart and Serpent’s Kiss have their own story, when he helps her retrieve her wayward niece from a very risky situation.
Hunter’s Moon: Dark Fae guard and assassin Xanthe from Devil’s Gate finds love when tasked to protect and nurse Aubrey Riordan of Storm’s Heart.
Eastlake does a decent job of narration.
Recommend reading - in order - if you follow the series.

Absolutely wonderful

Just like the rest of her stories, these 2 are love stories set in a world in which I wish I could visit, with people I wish I could meet. Thea Harrison has a way of telling stories, and Sophie Eastlake brings them to life, that I listen to them all over and over. They are a comfortable place to be when I want to step away.
They are best read in the order they were written, so to avoid spoilers. Enjoy.

Devils' Gate and Hunter's Season

What made the experience of listening to Destiny's Tarot the most enjoyable?

Really happy that the powers that be choose to use the same narrator for the short stories as they have for the books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Xanthe: She was a secondary character in Devil's Gate then became a primary character in Hunter's Season. Although Ms Harrison does a lovely job of making these stories as complete as possible, the development of Xanthe is stronger because of her appearance in both stories.

What does Sophie Eastlake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have read all of the books, stories and novellas. Sophie Eastlake does a wonderful job with the voices, the phrasing and pacing. Her male voices are subtle and unforced sounding which is so great.

Loved it

This world is so rich. I enjoy each and every one of the stories very much. Especially how old friends are mentioned and tied together. Aubrey and Xanthe deserved a HEA. Thank you Thea.
