Publisher's summary

Jason Morgan's life has taken a turn for the worse.

Once an able-bodied man, he is now confined to a wheelchair after a devastating car accident. Two experimental surgeries later, he still cannot walk. As a ward of the State, he longs for the freedom he once had and the ability to walk again.

Enter Games For Life, a gaming company that has developed a massive VRMMORPG system. With their groundbreaking pod technology, Jason is invited to test the system and explore the vast world of Destiny: a place where time and reality are not what they seem, and anything is possible.

At first, Jason is skeptical, but when he discovers he can walk again in the game, he is overjoyed. He starts to spend more and more time in the virtual world, making friends and building relationships he never thought possible.

However, as he delves deeper into the game, he begins to realize that there is more to it than he first thought. The fine print on the contract he signed becomes more important, and he discovers that he may be in over his head.

Adventure waits for no one, and Jason finds himself embroiled in a battle to save the game from a dangerous threat. With the help of his newfound friends, he must face down foes and solve puzzles to save not just the game but the world outside of it.

In the end, Jason discovers that Destiny is not just a game but a way of life. He learns to appreciate the people in his real life and the new ones he met in the virtual world.

A tale of loss, friendship, and adventure, Destiny's Champions is a thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Had a lot of potential

Usually when it comes to book like this I am all over it except the pacing is absolutely terrible. Most of the book takes place on the first day and then the rest of the book is half of the second day. During the time he gets (spoiler) seven companions, about three super magic items, a trade deal that will give him over 1 million gold in a year, and about 20 mile radius of land that was given to him by the king. Not only is that a tease is a harem heavily but the character refuses to do anything with them. And they are all practically demanding to be with him and his excuse is that he doesn’t know which one to pick what it’s of years all of them are willing. The character also have a nervous break down because he’s getting too much stuff and all he wants to do was make a cabin. If they would’ve gave The MC more of a spine I would’ve given them the story if five out of five. But the character is week for a character.

b@@bs everywhere

This story had a good start until books became the main thing on the mc's mind. not real relatable for the female audience. Also, he talked so much about taking things slow and enjoying life, then he buys all of his skills at high level instead of enjoying the leveling? I'm stopping where he bought a high level cooking skill then ordered two weeks of pre-made food lol. usually I'd just go with it, but the whole premise seems to be about enjoying the skill life, but he buys everything . it just fell flat for me.

Protagonist has faced zero challenges so far

More than half way through and the main character has faced zero challenges so far. Beautiful women and favor with the gods are falling into his lap. He's the main character. Let him do stuff! Boring. No plot. No adventure.

Fluffy nothing

Another story that feels written by a sexually frustrated teenage boy. Meanwhile, it contains nothing in the way of characters, progression, or an actual plotline. The main character is overly oblivious to everything, yet is the only player to ever think of anything, starting at character creation. Apparently, no one has ever asked about a half-elf, or half-dragon, which is patently absurd. From there it just goes in the straightest line to the formation of a harem, with our "hero" frequently staring at chests, while the female characters explain that they are drawn to him because he is so respectful of them.
This is a story that the author wrote for himself. No one else has any business with it.

potential

This series has so much potential, but is not enough
6 books in I'm disappointed, there are so many opportunities for deep character driven stories that it just falls short. I read plenty of reviews and hoped the harem elements could carry this series through, but that didn't happen either. The MC moves so fast from plot line to plot line its sad. Book 1-4 could easily be expanded to 6-8 books. Book 5 could easily be 2-3 books alone. The harem elements don't exist here, the MC has 5 wives that he spends no time with. he goes an entire book without speaking to most of them. Supporting characters are constantly introduced and dropped to the side. Spoilers Ahead: Massive talking Lion Compainon gets no love for 3 books after he is introduced. He could easily be a favorite but with no character development he is as useless as snow shovel in Mexico.

Just a bunch of rambling about nothing.

I don't get it. The whole book is about a sitting around having conversations. Nothing happens. Just why? I listened until the last hour and a half and couldn't take it anymore. The MC is an idiot and everything confuses him. The narrator is good but that's all I can say good about this book.

no story its all build up to nothing

this is not a book it's a few chapters of outline of a world that sounds good but it's missing the conflict and resolution part of any book this style. I have a feeling book 2 should be better but I'm not going to pay for that.

Boring!

Made it to chapter 6 and had to quit. Nothing remotely interesting had even happened yet by this point.
And the author doesn't know how to write conversations. Everything sounds like stilted info dumps rather than how people would naturally speak. Waste of time.

Not like other men?

The story had potential, and clearly this book is intended as backstory, but some of it is just insulting. The MC ogles every female he meets (judging them first by their bust size) and they respond by literally throwing themselves at him five minutes later, saying they are so attracted to him because he doesn't treat women like other men. The guy has one simple goal the entire book, but by the end has not cut a single tree to start building his cabin. While I'm mildly curious whether he ever will, I'm not going to waste a credit for more PG harem nonsense. I wish Audible had more detailed filters so I could more easily filter out harem stuff.

I had to stop listening

I do not usually write reviews but I also don't usually stop a book. Good job this was in the Plus Catalogue otherwise it would have been a waste of money.

As some of the other review say, there is no challenge in the story, the main character gets wildly disproportionate rewards for doing nothing and is constantly told he is 'not like other players'. I guess he is not like other players..... he is not playing the game. I got 6 hours into the book and he was on his second or third day in the game world. So far he has just asks a couple of questions and has 'appreciated' all the well endowed women around him which is a horribly creepy listen.

Overall there is a strong 'and everybody clapped' and 'not like others' vibes.

Gary Sue type story

Half way through and this guys only made basic questions and got massive overpowered rewards for doing nothing. All telling, no showing. I'm quitting at this point.

This was an okay book but in line with many books that I have listened to with similar storylines I actually found this one quite boring.

surprising change

I really enjoyed this book, a LitRPG story not focused on combat. It is an interesting story and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Another dense as brick MC

I had to stop after 6 hours. Another dense as brick harem anime MC, but unlike in anime, MC is not 13 years old. He is getting unreasonable prizes for just asking questions or just for being polite to NPC because nobody ever thought of doing so before him. Wow, so amazing....bleeh.
I am really sorry for the lector who had to read it all to be recorded.

very entertaining

this is not a stand alone story, there is a cliffhanger.

that aside it is a fun listen, the basic premise being guy in a full immersion mmorpg becoming op whilst putting together a party.

for people that wish to avoid general misogyny, the main protagonist is pitched as being very aware of the looks of the women he meets but not acting on it. since its written from his perspective this can get a very cringy. however there is a hint that further into the story there will be pay off for the cringe as the character develops in himself. hopefully.

overall quite well written, fun characters, fun concept, will definately be purchasing the second book

don't waste your time

A very short tale in which the protagonist is given money and levels, achieving nothing on his own. The main focus is his building of a harem. Too many large breasted female characters besotted by their big-man-saviour. Pathetic!
