Publisher's Summary

The year is 1969. Though there is war and unrest in the world, on August 15th, on a farm in upstate New York, a little concert will go down in history as the most famous music festival of our time: Woodstock. It also happens to be the day Bonnie McMillan and Peter Hampton meet and begin their free-spirited love-filled journey with each other. Fast forward 47 years. Bonnie unexpectedly passes after a night of hot sex and is whisked up to Purgatory, or "The Green Room". Bonnie's best friend meets her at the pearly green gates and the fun begins, from body sculpting to channeling. Follow Bonnie on her erotically incorrect quest to re-connect with the love of her life. Or at the very least, make sure the sex toys are hidden before the kids start sorting through her things!

Desperately seeking

What was one of the most memorable moments of Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine?

The audiobook t was unique and funny! It's a story about one woman's life and her afterlife! About going back to a time that meant the most to you! In Bonnie's case it meant going back,it meant remembering her life with Peter, her husband . Lots of LOL moments..:)

Hilariously witty and fun!

This is my first audio book and I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only was I able to listen to it while doing menial tasks around the house, but it kept me wildly entertained. Bonnie lands herself in the "in-between" after a wild night of sex with her husband and begins an all new journey. From worrying about her appearance to the fear of her children finding her and her husband's sex toys, the hilarity ensues. Grab this book now for a VERY interesting hour of laughs. You won't regret it!

Great Quick Read

Any additional comments?

Desperately Seeking 69 by J.D. Prettier was a great and quick read. I loved reading Peter and Bonnie's story. This was a great story of Purgatory, the place you go when waiting to go to heaven or hell. Only they call it 'The Green Rom'. Bonnie meets her best friend there after her unexpected death. Bonnie goes on a journey to reconnect with Peter, her one true love. She recalls the way they met and their life together. This was a great quick read. I love the authors work and can't wait to read more by her. This is a must read.

I never wanted it to end

I volunteered to review this book without any promises about the review (the rating or the posting). When I was first sent in the direction of this book, I was told it was a “laugh out loud” comedy. The saying “each to his own” applies in this case. However don’t get the wrong idea. Just because I didn’t LOL over the book doesn’t even come close to saying I didn’t enjoy it. It was a fun and humorous read and I will definitely be looking for more in this series. The following is my personal opinion and thoughts about many aspects of this book and its author. COVER: ✯✯✯✯✯ - This is one of my favorite covers ever. I’m so tired of 1/2 naked couples. The bold and bright colors, the font...hell, everything about it worked with the book. The TV, the bright green, the # 69….there is a reason for all of them. PLOT: ✯✯✯✯✯ - This book had a general direction the characters followed to get to the final result, but plot wouldn’t be the correct word to use. This was a humorous and feel good book that wasn’t supposed to have any overly dramatic situations or big climax at the end. Even though everything tied together in the end, it definitely leaves the story open to more books in the series. WRITING STYLE: ✯✯✯✯✯ - I’ve read books by JD in her alternate persona, Jennifer Theriot. Her writing style doesn’t differ between the personas. I love her “to the point” descriptions. There’s just enough to give you a visual effect without being overly descriptive. Also, she has a way of giving you background history on the characters while staying in the moment. I mean...information that normally would be mundane and boring is interesting and informative in developing the characters. CHARACTERS: ✯✯✯✯✯ - There are 3 main characters in this short story/novella. Each character is brought to life more by their words than their actions or any background information. Bonnie didn’t really conform to the “establishment” but she really has been allowed to spread her wings after her death….absolutely love her and can’t believe she ever birthed a kid like Dharma. Peter is Bonnie’s husband. As lovable and delightful as he is, I wouldn’t be able to be with someone like him. Cudos, Bonnie. Peter is a 70 year old hippy who refused to ever grow up until he was given the ultimatum by Bonnie. I love the character, but I’m so glad he doesn’t exist in my world. I’d kill him. Dee….omg, what a firecracker. She is the best friend of all best friends. She loud and proud. She pushes and pulls when the time requires it and she is definitely someone I want in my life. OVERALL FLOW: ✯✯✯✯✯ - With the story being so light and cute without any real angst, the flow was very easy-going. I was shocked when I hit the end of the book. I was left unsatisfied because I never wanted it to end. Bonnie dies after a night of kink with her husband of 47 years. Her best friend, Dee, who died 8 years earlier is there to welcome her to the “Green Room”. It’s like a holding room till the powers that be decide whether you go to heaven or hell. Bonnie reflects on her time with Peter...the time they met at Woodstock, the birth of the children, their marriage and life up to Bonnie’s death. During all this Dee shows Bonnie how to work with all the miracles the Green Room offers. Personally, I hope the Green Room really exists….I want the body sculpting, the Nip Amp and I definitely want to see the Get Some of Me. Under no circumstances was I approached by the author to read or review this book. I offered without any agreement or promise for any compensation. I am voluntarily giving my opinion about this book. My only affiliation with the author is that I am a fan and want to support by reading and posting this review of my own free will.

Purgatory was never more fun!!

What other book might you compare Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine to and why?

I have never read a book like this before. So funny!

What about Hollie Jackson’s performance did you like?

I always enjoy Hollie Jackson's performances. She delivers comedy so well.

Any additional comments?

This was a fun short story of what it's like in the afterlife. Purgatory or "The Green Room" as it's called was an idea so unique and different and quite refreshing than my usual romance listens. It had its sad moments, but for the most part I was laughing so hard. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by J.D. Frettier. Well done!

If you loved the ebook, this will knock you over. The story pops into your ears like it was written to be an audiobook.

Enaid All-enir, dah-ling! Talk about quirky. She had me rolling!

What does Hollie Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm a big fan of Hollie Jackson. You can tell she loves what she does, and this story was no exception. She brought this story to life as if I were living it.

Party Like It's 1969 !

Would you listen to Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine again? Why?

Oh gosh yes. Why? It's hysterical and a feel good story.

What did you like best about this story?

It should be a sad story considering someone dies however it shows us a life on the other side and it is so funny and just a feel good story.

Have you listened to any of Hollie Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have and she is an excellent narrator. She does a great job with this story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Bonnie reaches out to her husband Peter or tries too and finds her ex-neighbor making moves on him. HAHA bring on the screeching television too funny.

Any additional comments?

This was a funny book to read but even funnier to listen to. I highly recommend if you want a little saucy with your comedy.

5 Stars!!!!!

OMG!! What a way to take a great short book and make it better. I love how the narrator just brought this book to life. I really found that this added and made the story better. I could so picture the whole story in my mind.

I really like how the narrator uses expression and it really adds to it. I just love the fact that the story comes to life through the voices. I really could relax and get into listening.

Funny story

Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine – Audio Book
By J.D. Frettier
4 stars

Ok, so going in to this book I had absolutely no idea what I was in for, I kind of got the idea it was going to be paranormal kind of read with a twist and I was right! Paranormal with a humorous twist. I’m a bit weird about the ‘after life’ so wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it but I have to say the book was such fun. It was only short (around 1 and ½ hours listening time) but that didn’t mean the story was lacking. The pace was fast, the writing good and I really enjoyed the characters. I certainly laughed out loud at some parts in the story. I thought that narration was really good, it was easy to listen to.

Bonnie has let go. As Bonnie is in purogtray or is that where she is. This is a lovely listen and very upbeat despite the topics. There alot of humor in this short listen which makes you smile or roll over the floor laughing depending on your sense of humor. All these characters are very well written and you can feel yourself in there shoes. Warning don't listen around children or you may find yourself embarrassed.
