Not what one would expect after reading the blurb

This story appears to be a mixture of fantasy (magic) and "political" thriller like so many old environmental movies.
But I couldn't be farther from the true... The magic theme is there but only as an illusion. And the political part is also there but not the main focus. In reality, this story has an amazing twist that will make it worth to reach the end.
Still, besides the main turning point of the story, I can't say it was a great page turner.
The narration is good and a great fit for the main character.

Okay

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

I was very interested in this book as I grew up not far from the area described in the book. However, I found a real lack of development of the characters and I found the MC Lottie to be generic and not very interesting. The story wrap up was quick - and lacked tension. As I listened to this book, I found my mind drifting many times so I had rewind and listen to parts of it again. Overall, it was just okay for me.

Short but Intense

Lottie is happy in the town of Delta. As her 17th birthday approaches, she’s introduced to her great aunt, Flora, who for mysterious reasons, does not leave her home. When the government comes in, interested in breaking the nearby reservoir, they leave the residents no choice but to leave. Lottie refuses though, confident that there are outside forces in control. Forces that will keep her and her family safe no matter what.

Like other Jordan Elizabeth books, this story packs a real punch in just a couple hours. The plot was intense, and Lottie was a relatable character. The ending of this novella makes me curious as to what book two could have in store.

Narration fit the tone well.

A trip into a not oft-talked about part of history

So, this was book number two in my on-going book recommendation/exchange my wife and I take part in with each other. She is a huge fan of Jordan's work and is always talking about her latest stories. She recommended Delta to me, a story that is so far off my normal trail of Space Opera, Sci-Fi, and Post-apocalyptic tales that I had to give it a shot.

This is my first audiobook story of a historic style. While I had a general idea of what to expect from the plotline thanks to my wife, I was not sure what to expect in terms of storytelling and how the tale of Lottie and Nora would unfold.

Man, was I surprised at just how much I enjoyed this story. The scenes were very well written with vivid amounts of detail and a high level of variety in terms of dialogue, descriptions, and tags. Close to the end of the story, I found a few story arcs that I did not expect and that was played out in a fantastic fashion.

As my second Jordan Elizabeth book, I will definitely be waiting for the next audiobook release. The narrator was very natural and I felt fit the role of Lottie quite nicely.

5/5 from someone who is quickly becoming a JE fan.

Mysterious and unique novella

A story based on actual events in the 1900s, with a twist! Lottie is a girl living a normal life in her village. When news arrives that the village is to be drowned for a reservoir, her life is turned upsidedown.

This story has mystery, magic and kept me interested throughout. What a unique and brilliant plot with a totally unexpected twist! Jordan has an amazing imagination and i look forward to hearing more from her!

Danae narrated well and clearly. The performance felt like the perfect fit for the story.

Overall, i would recommend this thrilling and mysterious unique novella.

I look forward to reading the next book

This book was given to me at my request and I am providing a voluntary review:

This was a cute little book. It was a little short for my taste, but still very entertaining. I was actually surprised when I saw Book 1 in the title. Usually when authors do that, they leave the ending in a cliffhanger, forcing you to buy the next one if you want to know what happens. Not the case here. This makes me even more curious about book 2. The narrator did an excellent job! I will definitely be looking to read the next book!

Delta Magic

Lottie Madison is a typical young girl, living with her family in the small town of Delta, New York. Close to celebrating her 17th birthday, she is introduced to her great aunt, Flora, a recluse confined to her home because of a mysterious illness. At the same time, the town is facing flooding by the government in order to improve the Erie Canal.

As everyone in town receives their eviction notices, the Madisons refuse to leave or believe that they will have to move along with everyone else. Instead, they seem convinced that they are protected by some type of magic. When Lottie begins to ask questions, she finds out more about her family than she ever knew and some of it isn't very good.

I enjoyed this short story and the author did a good job of drawing the reader/listener into the events surrounding the town of Delta. At the same time, I could feel the emotions in Lottie and her need to find out the truth. The narrator, Danae Bianes, did a great job and added a lot to my listening enjoyment. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.
