Story
Some decisions aren't meant to be easy. Raegan is back at Shadow Veil Academy, even though it's the last place she wants to be. Her heart is broken, but her rage is even more prominent as she learns just how little has been done to find Malina since she was last there. When an unexpected visitor arrives at the school, Raegan turns to her dragon side as she searches for the answers she needs to move forward. All the while, thoughts of Enzo's betrayal are never far from her mind, but no matter his reasons, she's not sure she can ever trust him again.

Raven may be a shifter, but she's always felt separate from her wolf. She never knew it should be different. Then, a stranger shows up in her hometown, turning her world upside down and recruiting her for the elite Bloodshed Academy. Everything she's ever known is challenged, and Raven finds herself in impossible situations. Making matters worse is the fact that one of the strongest alphas at school catches her eye. And he makes her feel things she doesn't understand. The school may only recruit the best of the best, the strongest in their world, but there's something more about Raven.

Welcome to Darkblood - oops, I mean Darkhen Academy. There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school: Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon...or else. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors. Too bad I’ve never really been a rule follower...If word gets out that humans are no longer safe from the supes, our worlds will once again be closed off. It’s up to us to stop that from happening.

Yesterday I was a teenager waiting tables in Manhattan, and today, monsters exist and I can see them. Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: the Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon. They’re on opposite sides of a brutal war, and I only have a few days to pick which side I want to join. I’m ready to choose when the Shades force my hand by cursing someone I love.

After I challenged the Blood Council's four shifter heirs at a college party, the last thing I expected was to receive a full scholarship and an admittance letter from the exclusive Wolf Moon Academy. Despite never desiring to be an alpha, this was an opportunity of a lifetime...or so I thought. I soon learned that there was more behind my admission to the Academy than my education. I was there to be a lesson to the heirs - in particular, the sexiest and strongest one, Liam Hale.

There are several things I've always known growing up as the alpha's daughter. The most important ones being: My twin brother Cord was the perfect choice as successor to our father. Mostly because I wanted nothing to do with being an alpha-in-training. I had two of the best friends a girl could ever ask for: Cord and Augie. Then everything changed when my brother was murdered, and I found myself needing to prove to my father I was more than capable of finishing what Cord started.

There’s only one rule in the world I come from. Keep our existence a secret. Period. The day my sister broke that rule one too many times, I knew there would be consequences. I expected us to be sent to one of those schools for “troubled” kids - and maybe Daizlei Academy was, in a way. But really, it was far more complicated than that. You see, I thought that world had forgotten me. Forgotten us. For years we were left alone, and one day...we weren’t. It was only when I got there that I remembered the second rule: Trust no one.

Captured my attention from the beginning
Delayed Admission by Heather Renee, and narrated by Vanessa Moyen are both new to me. All I have to say on that is …. they knocked it out of the park. Heathers' writing and Vanessas' vocal talent has made this one of my favorites of 2020.
We meet Raegan, the FMC on a bus in Portland ( no state ever mentioned ) who is still grieving the deaths of her "parents" in a random act of violence 8 months ago. After meeting up with her Aunt Jules she finally goes to the cemetery. This is basically the last thing she does as a HUMAN. On her way home she is attacked and then all sorts of truths come out. Enter the MMC Enzo, a full blood elf. This is all the spoilers you will get at that's the first 5 mins.
Raegan is convinced to go to Shadow Veil Academy so she can get control of her emerging magic. She is a year behind everyone else there age so the school decides to let her stay with her age, on the condition she trains extra hours with Enzo. OF COURSE there is going to be a love interest happening.
Elves, vampires, shifters, witches, sorcerers, hybrids and you cant leave out the dungeon.
If paranormal fantasy with some crazy twists is what you are looking for then dive into this book. I was begging for the second book by the end of the second hour. Yes of course there's a cliff hanger. How else would the author get you excited about the next book?
Heather and Vanessa make a great team and I look forward to more by both.

Witches, Elves, Vampires, Shifters -- Oh My!
I don't think I've zoomed through a book as fast as this one. Granted, it was little over a 6-hour read, but I found myself wanting to listen to a chapter, at least, every night before bed. I haven't done that since Evermore Academy. Only complaint would be that I needed more content, but that's what a series is for, right?
I have a guilty pleasure for slow-burn romances. I love the angst between two characters as they start to realise they have feelings for one another. Normally I want this romance to stretch over multiple books if it's a series. But Renee sprinkles a few twists and turns in this specific romance, that I rather enjoy. Especially the surprise at the ending!
I strictly read fantasy, and this catered to my old Twilight, Percy Jackson days where supernatural characters get to spend time with each other in a school setting. I was especially impressed that these are technically college students so I'm not left wondering why this school doesn't teach any normal K-12 subjects! (looking at specifically you, Harry Potter) Delayed Admission catered very well to my fantasy school-setting needs.
I'm pretty sure I've heard narration by Moyen before, and if I haven't, she has the perfect voice and expressions for this type of work. She kept me COMPLETELY engaged in the story and I would recommend her performance for beginners into audiobooks -- an example of what the acting SHOULD be like. To me, she's perfect.

Outstanding Teen/YA Paranormal Series
I absolutely loved this book! This is a new author for me and she just jumped to the top of my favorite author’s list. I wasn’t sure what to expect but she exceeded my expectations! The world she created is unique and interesting. The story flowed at a perfect pace with twists and turns I never saw coming!
Narration was excellent and brought the story to life. Her voice fits the characters well and expressed emotions according to each situation. She added so much life to the story.
The characters are interesting and captivating. Here you will find many hybrid supernatural races, elves, shifters, witches, vampires, sorcerers, etc.. This book is hard to put down and I listened to it in pretty much one sitting.
The conclusion took me by surprise and I was blown away! I can hardly wait to see what happens next. I’m so looking forward to book 2.

Academy romance
This was a sweet academy romance with a paranormal twist. The main character finds out she’s a supernatural unknown and her world changes forever. The ending really surprised me! It wasn’t a cliffhanger but more of a to-be-continued. Luckily the next books are out already so no waiting to find out what happens! It was an enjoyable listen and I like the world the author created.
The narrator is very good and perfect for the young female character.

I really enjoyed this book. Raegan is a really likeable character. I loved the fact that she's a "mixed breed" supernatural. Absolutely love the name Enzo, although he's super possessive. The narrator was great. She really made me immerse myself into the story! Can't wait to listen to book 2. I haven't read supernatural YA genre in a few months. Great Academy Story
Really enjoyed this! The MC, Reagan, had some unique traits, which I enjoyed. Lots of surprises. Some good laughs. Lots of curse words so if that offends you, skip this series. I loved Enzo's character. And Reagan's BFF Gemma was awesome and so fun. I loved their friendship. I don't think enough books include a solid, realistic friendship. 💕
This was my first audiobook with Vanessa Moyen. She is wonderful! I see why she's so popular. She really makes the story come alive. Does different voices. Just awesome. My favorite voice she did was Malina. I was kind of blown away that it was still her. It felt like it was a totally different person. She's fab.

Hooked on what happens next
I really enjoyed this,
in the aftermath of her parents death Raegan starts doing weird things. She attempts to hide this from her aunt until Enzo shows up. Simultaneously saving and changing her life! It turns out not only were her parents not her birth parents, but her aunt isn't her aunt and there's a whole supernatural world out there that she didn't know about.
Arriving at shadow Vale academy she plans to learn to defend herself and get back to her normal life. But with secrets around every corner, mysterious dark forces and other supernaturals with their own agenda will she even make it out in one piece? And can she really trust those she's come to love? This has some conflict resolution but also a cliffhanger.
Whilst the pace was a little slow for my taste the story was more than engaging enough to keep me going and pg enough that I could listen to it with the kids in the car without worrying if they heard bits and pieces. The narration is good (although her shouting "voice" made me laugh) and Vanessa has great infliction and tone. Now just to see what happens next!

Great start to a story over 3 books.
Interesting characters narrated well.
If this was two books or just one it would have got 5 stars as it makes it costly when on a audible subscription.

Love it
I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.
OMG give me more! I’ve devoured this audiobook in a day. A perfect well paced story with mystery and twists and turns. Although the supernatural world and some elements of the school aren’t overly detailed it’s completely made up by the character building of Reagan and her learning of magic. Her bestie is both fierce and adorable and Enzo well ... he’s a mystery in himself!
I’m definitely looking forward to the next instalment of this book to see just what happens next!!

A good story
I liked the story I didn’t loved it but I liked it.
The main character joins a paranormal academy and there she finds more truth about herself and also about who she is.
She find friends, love and enemies.
This story could have been easily 5 stars but there was a bit too many plot wholes or time jumps. But I still enjoyed it.

Plot twists, that keep you wondering
I enjoyed this book, for the roller coaster ride, thinking that story is going in one direction, romance, bullying and growth with a bit of drama.
But when Raegan's truth of existence comes to light, things get you guessing, pondering on what has been revealed and what is not revealed yet, who will triumph over who...
I look forward to the second book, and what Raegan is up to next...

Excellent.
Raegan Keyes lost her parents and now lives with her Aunt that she never knew existed.
Strange things have been happening to her that she can’t make sense of . One night whilst walking home she’s attacked by someone strange but a mysterious stranger rescues her Enzo then tells her what she is and takes her to the Shadow Veil Academy .
Fabulous story and characters I love Academy books and this one does not disappoint .
Vanessa Moyen is an excellent narrator she does all the character voices perfectly.

Loved it!
Clear your schedule because you are going to want to binge listen to this book!
The book had a good mix of mystery, school life and romance. It was written so well that at times, I actually felt what Raegan felt. And that ending...
The narrator brought this amazing story to life and you'll never be confused who's speaking.

Good story, ok narrating
This was an entertaining story though I’m not in love with this narrator. I love the constant feeling of someone’s betraying the MC and trying to figure out who it was. I plan to check out the next book in the series
