Publisher's Summary

Some secrets are better kept.

To Raegan Keyes, she's the only one of her kind, but has no idea what she is. Until, one night, she finds out her unexplainable abilities aren't the only thing she needs to worry about. Suddenly, her world becomes much bigger than she ever could have dreamed.

When a mysterious man named Enzo arrives, too striking to be human, Raegan learns she's not as alone as she believed. As more secrets are revealed, she's swept off to an academy for others like her, thousands of miles away from home, by a complete stranger whom she'd rather stab than travel with.

As tension builds between Raegan and Enzo, she begins to find her purpose as she settles into her new existence, alongside elves, witches, vampires, and shifters. With a group of new friends, she's finally feeling alive again. That is, until something sinister comes along, once more throwing her life into mayhem.

Good performance but not the school for me

A paranormal academy read that just wasn’t my cup of tea. I was pulled in by the blurb and the promise of romantic adventure, supernaturals, and a mysterious evil, but felt the book never quite delivered on all its promises. It felt as though the big plot points were there, but it lacked finesse and consistency in-between, leaving me with lots of questions and struggling to engage. I also battled with the lack of depth and character development as well. I found myself rolling my eyes and becoming frustrated as the MC often jumped between self-pity and “I’m a kickbutt warrior.’ The romance element felt forced as well which left me disinterested and disbelieving. I absolutely loved Gemma and her sense of self and vibrancy. The unanswered questions kept me going to the end but I wasn’t blown away by any of the reveals. If you enjoy quick, character-light pnr academy reads or other series by this author, this might appeal to you. I’m a fan of this narrator, but her talent for embodying Reagan and Enzo only further heightened their grating, ever-changing personalities for me. I thought she did a good job distinguishing between characters’ voices and bringing the story to life, this just wasn’t the book for me.

Could not stop listening!!!!

I absolutely loved this book. Most audio books I have to speed up the narration but this narrator use a great pace. She was easy to listen to and brought this story to life for me. Poor Raegan has her entire life stripped away from her in the beginning of the book only to find out she is not quite human and should have been in a school for supernatural beings. If it were not for the help of Enzo not only would she not had found out but she may have lost her life. She gets to the academy and is ready for the adventure of learning what she is.

Immediately she finds the typical school cliques, meets the mean girl, and finds a friend. She is behind on her studies but is a fast learner. Enzo seems to be the most popular boy in school and has taken an interest in her but is hot and cold. To make it more steamy, he has been assigned to train her. What she finds out quickly is she needs this training now more than ever because there is a much bigger monster coming for her and no one is powerful enough to protect her.

Wanting more

I was really hoping for more from this book. I felt like there wasn't quite enough world building or character building. It was just a year in the life of a supernatural high school student. Yes, there was the question of how she turned out to be a tribrid, along with an evil sorceress trying to gain her freedom. But all of the characters seemed to talk the same, there was honestly only so much I could listen to the words "girly parts". Plus there was mention of a Scavenger in the beginning and then never really mentioned again. I just wanted a more fleshed out story.

Girly bits

I think maybe I'm getting burned out on academy style books. I liked the premise of the book but didn't find myself really invested in the characters. I'm not sure if it was the language the main character used or that it was told from a single perspective but something just didn't click for me.
If I were to hear my girlie bits one more time I was going to hurl... Lol...
I usually really like this narrator and again I found little things that grated on my ears, I will say I was totally unprepared for the ending.
So take a chance and see what you think for yourself.

Good

The story was intriguing and kept my attention but the main character had to grow on me. I didn't really care for the narrator's voice, it reminded me of Lindsay Lohan.

Dangerous New Magical Academy Series

I absolutely adored The Raven Point Pack werewolf series by this author, so I was really excited to get my hands on more books by her- especially ones in the magical academy genre that is my current obsession. Delayed Admission was a quick, fast paced read that was a perfect piece of escapism.

The overall world building of the paranormal or the school in general was not very detailed but I am hoping that the next book in the world will expand on all things supernatural. This story instead focus mainly on the main character learning how to master her magic, the school dynamic and drama and the main focus which was a mystery. The mystery element of the story was great, full of twists and random surprising danger. I was a little miffed that time elapsed randomly, weeks or months passing with no story, and I wanted to know what was going on during that time.

This narrator is hands down one of my favorite audiobook narrators, I will gladly read anything she wants to narrate at this point. She is the perfect voice for a teenage girl,. her pacing is engaging AND all the characters have distinct voices which helps me stay present in the story with no confusion on my part as to who is talking.

Just know that the author excels and the heartbreaking, cliff-hanger ending and this is no exception. I highly recommend getting all the book so you can binge them back to back and not have to wait for answers (but I might be biased since I have zero patience!)

Great Story

I enjoyed delayed admission. It’s creative and entertaining. I liked Raegan, Aunt Jules and Gemma. I even liked Enzo a tiny bit. It’ll be interesting to see if my feelings towards him change as I make my way through the rest of the series.
At the age of seventeen Raegan experienced a tragic loss and goes to stay with Aunt Jules.
Recently Raegan has been experiencing things that she’s afraid to say anything about. Things that normal individuals wouldn’t. Either by coincidence or by design Reagan finds herself drafted into Shadow Veil Academy. She shows strength, loyalty and determination as she navigates the crazy, chaotic world she’s been thrust into. Thank goodness she’s got the love and help of her kick butt Aunt Jules and sassy best-friend Gemma.
I can’t wait to find what happens next in their fight against Malina.
