when you're right, you don't have to be rude

The author is actually horribly misinformed about some hiatoric facts. Nobody questions of Jesus the person existed. For someone who is supposed to be reasonable and fact based, this was a book completely about what he thinks and feels. I expected more.

Wonderful alternative to the Catholic religion!

Great information, insightful and very well read! Wonderful book especially now with all the nones. Well worth the price!

Great book about Deism

This is an excellent book about Deism. I really enjoyed it! if you are interested in learning about this topic I highly recommend that you purchase this book!

The Author misses the whole point.

The book opens well, offering a clear introduction to the history and basic premises of Deism. That portion is accessible and worthwhile.

However, it quickly devolves into a shallow polemic against Judaism and Christianity. Instead of explaining what Deism is for, the author seems more interested in scoring rhetorical points by caricaturing other traditions.

The treatment of Judaism is particularly banal and uninformed. Judaism is repeatedly approached as if it were merely a set of theological claims to be dismantled, rather than a living people, legal tradition, and continuous civilization. The author’s comments on Israel and the Jewish connection to the land are not only incorrect, but dismissive in a way that undermines his claim to rational seriousness.

Deism does not require the trivialization of other traditions to stand on its own. Its real strength lies in providing a rational, natural-law framework for belief and coexistence. This book would have been far stronger had it shown the philosophical restraint Deism itself recommends.
