Resumen del Editor

In There Is a God, one of the world's preeminent atheists discloses how his commitment to "follow the argument wherever it leads" led him to a belief in God as Creator. This is a compelling and refreshingly open-minded argument that will forever change the atheism debate.

very interesting

really appreciated Flew's ability not only to listen and object to the other side (Theist) but more than anything his willingness to look at the evidence and be brave enough to change his stance after 60 years. I understand that he never confesses to a God of revelation but it really seems like he was well on the path to accpeing Jesus as his Lord and savior - really hope that is the case.

nothing groundbreaking if you follow the debate.

he followed the evidence wherever it led.
book is a personal account. could be expanded in more detail but would be harded for a popular book

Excellent book with phenomenal logic & great VO

A phenomenal short book that just obliterates so many standard atheist talking points. anyone who is questioning their position should read this book.

Enlightening and Enjoyable

The narrator is excellent - it's actually kind of a brain massage to have reasonable arguments spoken in an English accent with so much confidence and clarity, which is a really important trait in an audiobook. That being said, it took several listens for me to understand the arguments made for Flew's change of mind. It is most interesting that Flew absorbed the same kind of "God" of universal laws that Einstein believed in, yet went further based on his impressions that cellular complexity and consciousness demanded an intelligence beyond what evolution could explain.

Beautiful and Clear Presentation of Reasoned Argument to God

Clear, thoughtful and beautifully presented arguments lead to a proof of God’s existence. Arguments and an analysis of counter arguments are thorough and beautifully presented in a progression that it intuitive and well written making it easy to follow and a pleasure to read.

Powerful stuff

This is a very compelling narrative, all the more so given the source: one of the world’s foremost (former) atheists. Strongly recommend.

Easy to listen to & follow.

This is a very relatable explanation of Flew's reasons for conversion from atheism to belief. Very logically sound and easy to follow along with.

Disappointing

To be fair, I'm an atheist who's well read in biology and science but not in philosophy, so it's possible greater understanding of this field would make his arguments more convincing. I was hoping that, as a former atheist, Flew would present a more nuanced and advanced argument for the existence of a god than most apologists, which would address some of the strongest atheist counterpoints. Instead, his arguments seem strangely elementary for someone who supposedly made a career out of said atheism.

For example, he debunks the famous analogy of monkeys and typewriters by stating that there cannot be enough time or monkeys in the universe to ever produce a Shakespearean sonnet in one step. As you and I know, atheists have been well aware of this for half a century. Instead of addressing and trying to debunk the argument for a very gradual series of simple and cumulative steps preserved through natural selection, he seems either not to know about this idea or to pretend he doesn't.

He also briefly criticizes Dawkins' "The Selfish Gene" by arguing that genes are not conscious agents, and therefore cannot be selfish. it took me a minute to realize he was being serious.

One thing I do appreciate about this book is that Flew makes it clear that he is only explaining his own journey toward theism, not trying to convert the reader. I think leaving out his credibility-undermining "hard science" arguments and sticking only to philosophy would have strengthened his case.

The narration is excellent and audio is crisp and clear. no complaints there.
