Trilogy

Thoroughly enjoyed the entire trilogy. Have enjoyed any book by author especially trilogies and more

Hopeless

The heroine was annoying in her "fear". If not for that I would score higher.

subpar narration

There’s not enough mystery/treasure hunting and too much on sex and various body parts tingling, wetting, hardening. Plus the incessant inner monologuing on the female MC’s part on the male MC’s muscles, sinews, etc. When there is discussion on the treasure hunting, rather than having the info worked naturally into the storyline it is delivered as packets of info dump.

The author recycles tropes from her other books: one she is particularly fond of is how the MCs were burned in the past, and how cautious and reluctant (except for the sexual encounters) they are. It gets very tedious very quickly when it goes on and on especially you know how it’s going to end. Even in the last 30 min, the female MC is still sprouting nonsense. The only thing the author succeeds in doing is to make the female MC out to be a cowardly, self deluded twit. She’s resisting for the sake of resisting. It’s not as if she has such a great life to go back to: she’s a small time human interest reporter working for a small time newspaper, living alone in a bare apartment with only one friend. Frankly she’s pathetic. It makes no sense. The female MC wallows in her self assigned role of a tragedic drama queen. It’s really tiresome.

I’ve also noticed with this author that she is obsessed with the skin color of various characters: dark skin, cocoa colored skin. Being told once is enough.

The narrator is pretty bad- her delivery is completely bland with a strange cadence that makes one think of a synthetic voice. All the characters sound the same. She did get better as the story moves on, not sure if she actually improved or I just got used to her. She also mispronounces a number of words.
