Christmas Dread

I think I am beginning to understand how this author writes. I enjoy the stories but they are all a little similar in format, though I guess a haunted house does not deviate very much. The prologue while somewhat like the previous ones I have read does take a slightly different tack this time. The characters are alright for the most part, but the main female character is weak-minded and naive even if she is nice.

Blake and Abbie love their new home especially since they were able to build it to their specifications. The house is peaceful and far from the crowds and city life they left behind. But years ago on Christmas Eve, an unimaginable evil was perpetrated on this land where another house once stood and they are unaware.

Horror soon starts to assert itself as Abbie is targeted with visions of bloody people and screams for help. She believes that she is just seeing things and brushes it off mostly. Even getting the full story behind their land and what happened there does not make her more cautious.

While I enjoyed the story it was not scary, did not have much atmosphere building, and was kind of predictable. I saw the ending coming a mile away here. I also could have done with a bit more Christmas cheer.
