Publisher's summary

In the ever-changing modern international landscape, men serving at the tip of the spear need to be able to adapt, adjust, and excel in any environment, under any rules of engagement, at any time. This can lead to men making hard decisions that toe, and sometimes cross, the line between right and wrong.

Brought together by tragedy, three former Special Operations warfighters; Morgan Tyron, Alex Foaly, and Vinny Jensen, find themselves having to do just that as they hang up their uniforms and enter the shadowy world of private military contracting. Their three-man company, Integral Solutions Consulting, provides their services around the world. For the right price, they do the jobs that governments and corporations want done that the military and police can’t, or won’t, do.

Following several successful initial jobs, the team is hired by the Bolivian Government to help stamp out a fledgling drug lord in the outskirts of Bolivia’s capital. But soon the men of Integral Solutions find that success often leads to recognition, which can be dangerous in their line of work.

Zach James uses a combination of real-world experience, extensive in-depth research, academic background, and his own passion as a listener to bring for the most realistic, hard-hitting, visceral listening experience possible. Deception is the first in a series of novels that follows Special Operators across the globe, and our home, as they attempt to hunt down and kill those that threaten the people of the United States, and the nation herself.

"Combining the suspense and action of a Brad Thor novel with the realism and detail of Jack Carr, Zach James spins a complex story with layer upon layer of violence and intrigue in his debut novel. A must read for thriller fans." (Ryan W. Aslesen, Beststelling author of the Crucible Series and War's Edge Series)

Wow! This book is amazing!!!

I was with Zach James in Afghanistan many moons ago - the man is a scholar and a legend. I knew he was smart but his skills as an author are amazing. This book is captivating and gets the adrenaline going. I cannot wait for his other books to come out! His real life experience, research, and dedication to the craft really is apparent in his writing. While a fictional story - it feels very real. Absolutely believable and relatable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Also, this narrator is supernatural - absolutely crushed narrating the story.

Brilliant

A fantastic listen made so by both the narrator and the content. Great story with a gripping finale. Looking forward to Wetwork being released on the platform.

Subject matter expert who can also tell a story!

Typically when it comes to a military novel you either get an epic story that is ruined by the author’s absolute lack of knowledge on the subject or you get a highly decorated operator with a wealth of knowledge who sucks at writing books. Here you get the best of both worlds! The author’s military expertise shows in the accuracy of everything down to the optics on the rifles and technical terms used in the various communities represented. Couple that with a suspenseful story arc that you can’t put down, leaving you wanting more and you have this book. Zach James may be the best author to strike this balance of accuracy and epic storytelling since Tom Clancy.

Exciting! Realistic! Engaging!

Zach James knows how to pull the listener into every chapter, weaving a compelling introduction to what I know will be a saga of epic proportions!

Ummm…..what?

It’s not bad. You get a lot of intricate details, histories, relationships. I’m not wanting him to “get on with it “ but I do find myself wondering why it’s being told in such detail, like is this significant later or something? I find myself wondering about the title — bc nothing has really happened— errrr this is pretty standard background fare. Not seeing any potential for deception.
But my real beef with it is that it does all this set up that you patiently wait through. It finally gets to the meat of the story that gets exciting (2 hrs from the end) and then abruptly ends. Not just before there is any resolution, but before you even know what is going on. It sets the stage for the drama… creates the problem….and then it’s to be continued. WHY DO AUTHORS DO THAT! That is not a book! That is aTV show designed to keep people on the hook week after week to keep ratings up and sell advertising !
I know our society and devolved to 140 characters and the world as TV, but as authors rise above it!I don’t want to buy the next one just to resist. If it had already been released I might not be able to help it bc I would want to continue the story. But a year from now I’m not going to care anymore.

He’s a pretty good writer- just with some very unfortunate ideas about what books should be or he took some very bad advice

nonsense

I've never listened to so many words put together that equal up to nothing. I finally quit listening with like 2 hours left because the whole book is just somebody reminiscing about something and then somebody else sitting on the couch reminiscing about something and then somebody else sitting on their couch reminiscing about something else. there is no storyline or anything that happens in the present. what a joke! I don't usually right reviews but if I can help one person not buy this junk then I've helped them.
