WHAT A WOMAN! #INSPIRING

I am of Carrie Fisher's gen, so DR was CFs mother to me, but as I'm in my empty nester years, I thought I would delve into her story (still heartbroken after their twin deaths, sad but also quite touching) her story is more relatable. I started w Carrie's books, then decided to listen to Debbie's, and also just finished Todd's as well. I recc anyone interested in any also read/Aud them ALL; it is VERY interesting to hear multiple perspectives on their unique story/lives. (Read Todd's last, My Girls; I went btwn Debbies and Todds, but Id say read Carries Postcards and Wishful Drinking, then Debbie's My Life then the next one, then Todd's as an outline). While this story ended happily, there is more to come later on! the underlying theme thru all of them is HARDWORKING, SURVIVOR, PERSEVERENCE. SPECIAL and FAMIILY! If you want to hear about slogging thru, rising up, classic Hollywood, and FAMILY this family's books are for you! THIS plus the others would make an AMAZING streaming series, would love to see her dtr star as her (Billie play Carrie). These books deserve to come to life for all as a memorial to how special these women, and this family, is! It gave me new fortitude in her/their honesty, btwn marriage issues, addiction etc etc they share their truth and serve as a beacon and learning lesson for us all. How GRACIOUS of them! and apparently that was DR, classic Hollywood but UNFLAPPABLE and UNSINKABLE! Brava ladies! and thx to Todd who shared more on it all. (Todd Fisher in My Girls, Debbie's son/Carrie's brother and Hollywood show profucer etc.)

Debbie is sitting there telling you this story.

Just a really good read. I read a lot of political non-fiction and needed the change.This book is just good for your soul.

No ending but enjoyable ninetheless

such an amazing lady., but I wished it had some sort of ending to it.

Heart Wrenching

You will become entangled in these events, which are unbelievable..yet true. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Told like only Debbie Reynolds could do!

The story was told by Debbie, herself. It was as if she was sitting here chatting away telling her life's story in a very personal way. Her description of happenings gives the listener the opportunity to use your imagination and can picture it all!! Such a talented lady that had quite a sad life when it came to love.

Excellent listen! Learned so much about her I didn’t know. She was an amazing woman!

To much cut out

This book has so much cut out from its written format I hated it. Read the book not the audible one.

Debbie, a consummate performer

This abridged autobiography covers Debbie’s early years through her marriage to Richard Hamlet in the 80s. Debbie is vivacious and witty, funny and bright. My only issue is that there are a lot of audio glitches throughout that I presume came from digitizing the original tapes this was recorded on. At one point, they really detracted from the overall story. Otherwise, a lovely abbreviated tale of the vivid life of a star from Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Sadly VERY abridged

A very disappointing product as there are huge gaps in the narrative and we miss out on so many important milestones in Debbies life. It’s like an audio “Cliffs-notes”. Thankfully, we have an unabridged Debbie in her second memoir, UNSINKABLE. The woman - and her legacy- deserve much more than this truncated version. Hopefully, one day, the unabridged version of MY LIFE will be available.

Why did Audible pretend this was unabridged??

I like Miss Reynold’s voice. I have listened to Eddie Fisher’s memoirs and he lies when the truth would serve better. I am furious when I think of what Harry did to her. At least Eddie didn’t have a chance to financially rape her. Yes Elizabeth did her a favour. I think it says a lot about both Elizabeth and Debbie that they remained friends. I may be wrong about Elizabeth but I think she may have been so emotionally devastated by Todd’s death that she felt she had to have EDDIE regardless of what the consequences. I say all of this with the caveat that one should always be aware you cannot ever be sure that the information you’re getting is the truth, part of the truth, or a complete lie. Sometimes it’s not the author’s fault. He or she may think they’re telling the truth or the story is skewed a certain way because of the author’s choices in what to tell and what to leave out, what words to use.
I MUST REITERATE: AUDIBLE SHOULD HAVE LABELLED THIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY AS ABRIDGED!!!
