Publisher's Summary

Warning: May contain Egyptian gods, werewolves, power armor, and a world-ending apocalypse

A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind.

Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed, it heralds the end of our species' reign.

A plague of werewolves spreads across the world. A sunspot larger than anything in recorded history begins to grow. Yet both pale in comparison to the true threat, the evil the werewolves were created to fight.

"It's like Indiana Jones went through the Stargate and ended up in Aliens versus Predator." - One of the author's totally biased friends

This collection gathers No Such Thing As Werewolves, No Mere Zombie, Vampires Don't Sparkle, and The First Ark.

A little different

I bought this because it was a good price for 3 books. Started out a little slow and almost gave up. Glad I stuck with it because once it got going it got great.
The author did a great job with the plot and people. The reader... what to say? I could tell what character he was doing with no problem. Never heard a book read by him, so now I have to see what else he read.
Give this book a shot, I am only about half way through the second book and am enjoying it so very much

You want fun? You got fun! Because...werewolves!

Would you listen to Deathless Collection: Books 1-3 and the Prequel Novella again? Why?

I love the theme of werewolves and zombies. Also, I'm an avid player of a specific RPG chain about werewolves and this feels like a game I've played in for that.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't feel I can pick any one character, because it's the composite whole of the series I love. It's a little campy, a lot rompy, full of Indiana Jones hijinks meets Resident Evil. So my favorite character isn't an actual character within the book, but the character of the series- it's just amazingly fun!

Have you listened to any of Ryan Kennard Burke’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I'm going to look this fellow up for more work!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I were the type to listen to it in one sitting, I would; but by and large I use audio books to reward myself for doing things that need to get doing- I listen to it to clean, to work out, all sorts of drudgery necessities. This series did accomplish that.

Any additional comments?

I'm not going to say this is the most spot-on, well-composed piece of work ever. It's not. But quite frankly, I don't want something that is so entrenched in layers of meaning and profound depth- and if I do, I'll go log into one of a number of online college courses on literature that are available. What I love, love, LOVE is anything involving shapeshifters. I love Indiana-Jones-style hijinks. I love fighting to save the world. I love RPGs, which this book series feels so very much akin to a chain of RPG books that I play dedicated to that monster type, that it just.. hits so many happy points in my world. I read/listen to audio books to be entertained, to be caught up in a story...and this does it and with a smile on my face. Also, the author is so invested in his readership! I am so impressed. Put it this way- I already had book one and two purchased in my audio library, and I just went ahead and put in the credit to get the full series AGAIN, and I posted about it to my friends on social media (one of which I'm pretty sure has already purchased it). I cannot emphasize it enough- if you want to have fun, a really good enjoyable fun read, get this series. It's like a Snickers bar- it may not be chock full of nutritious value to make you think upon for hours and hours, but it will absolutely make you happy and leave you satisfied and wanting more. A great unexpected series and unique premise.

Where does Deathless Collection: Books 1-3 and the Prequel Novella rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top quarter. I really didn't expect this book to be such a great listen.

What other book might you compare Deathless Collection: Books 1-3 and the Prequel Novella to and why?

If you like series like Adrians Undead Diaries or any of Mark Tufo's books you'll love this.
As a fan of undead fiction then I suggest you give this a chance. Its such an unusual combinations of elements that work perfectly together.

Which scene was your favorite?

When it became clear that Werewolves, a high profile and socially relevant disease and solar flares all had a place in the unfolding zombie apocalypse.

Any additional comments?

I set out listening to this series with a nagging expectation that I was going to return it. I was pleasantly surprised to find a great tale and great performance.Obviously, if you aren't into this style of fiction you wont like it but if you are, I'd suggest giving this one a try and I think you'll be surprised.

Same mistakes as other writers

I got halfway through the third book before my BS meter maxed out and I had to turn it off. YOU CANT HAVE CHARACTERS WHO ARE POWERFUL, VICTORS OF AGES OF STRUGGLE - and DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS. It always kills a good story with characters who are truly likeable when the author is determined to strain my ability to believe they could be so stupid.

A wicked fun story!

This is an epic book series that really draws you into to an amazing world of werewolves, zombies, and vampires and the myths behind their creation/existence. But make no mistake this is not you typical mythos about them. This is a well thought out well planned story that grabs you by the throat and keeps you asking for more. If you like books like Monster Hunter then this series is right up your alley. I guarantee it!

you won’t be disappointed

The First Ark – prequel novella

I like the recreation of Egyptian mythology for the origins of Osiris, Isis and the rest and the discovery of the first Ark was pretty cool. I know you would normally read a prequel first, I would actually recommend reading No Such Things as Werewolves first so that you don’t have spoilers and enjoy finding out what happens as it is happening (that could just be me though….I like it when I can’t figure out a book right away). The frustrating part of this is that it is a very small snapshot of the beginning.

No Such Thing as Werewolves

This was an awesome mix of adventure (think Indiana Jones), Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Mythology all in one action packed story. While this one did start out a bit slow for me , it did really start to pick up once Blair is in Peru at the site with the rest of the scientific team. From here I found the story very engaging and the story pulls you along on the wild ride that is “There are no Such Things as Werewolves”. The cool thing about listening to the collection, is no cliffhanger….or rather it is there but you get to jump right into No Mere Zombie right away instead of having to wait to find out poor Trevor’s fate. There are plenty of twists and turns, at the beginning I was very happy with myself to have figured out what the ancient enemy was….only to have that turned upside down and realized about 60-70% in that I was very wrong (which is a good thing, I like a book that surprises me).

No Mere Zombie

Going into No Mere Zombie we had to wait five chapters to find out what happened to Trevor, (which kind of sucked) but there was a lot going on so it moved along quickly. We are introduced to Irakesh who is a very old Deathless. Trevor become’s Irakesh’s thrall….Cynthia comes across them while she is out searching for Trevor and decides to hitch her wagon with them (she has a thing for Trevor), Trevor is slowly becoming more himself but with all the freaky Deathless features. As the story progresses we see what a smarmy jerk Irakesh is and Cynthia becomes completely psycho…..Blair, Liz, Jordan & Bridgett are on the trail of Irakesh to keep him from getting The Ark of the Redwoods…… it was a wild ride from Peru to San Francisco and it sucked that it took so long for Trevor to be able to break away from Irakesh to join Liz & Blair’s side

Vampires Don’t Sparkle

It was really cool to see the expanding pantheon of gods, some familiar and some not so familiar (while I like mythology I have not done a lot of reading about it). I loved seeing everything start to come together, the alliances made, and choices that some of the characters make. The interactions between Osiris, Isis and Ra were very interesting.

It is the continuing roller coaster ride that started with No Such Thing as Werewolves and for some reason I thought the story would be ending here but the ride just keeps on going…I found myself laughing a lot and also gripping the steering wheel throughout the telling of this installment, which is always a good sign. The ending, while not quite a cliffhanger still leaves you wanting more, so again I will wait impatiently for the next book….I keep telling myself not to start a series until it is complete because I hate the waiting…oh well. So go out and start this series and you won’t be disappointed

The narration for this series is great, Ryan Kennard Burke does a fabulous job and has really brought the story to life, the voices for the characters are all very distinct and you can easily tell which character is speaking, I have really enjoyed his narration of the series and cannot wait for more.

Could be so great, but needlessly virtue signals the standard leftist talking points about global warming, Christianity, gender pay gap, woman's rights, etc.

B movie meets anime characters

I hadn't read a good zombie apocalypse book in quite some time and unfortunately that's still true. I was willing to suspend my disbelief at a werewolf plague and then at their misunderstood role as heroes, but the characters were all two dimensional and their progression seemed to follow a Dragonball Z formula. Protagonist is weak and gets dominated by enemy, somehow lives and is now super strong. Then he meets next enemy, is dominated, comes back super strong. Rinse and repeat. Sadly, I had to admit to myself that the novelty of werewolf - undead battles weren't enough to hold my attention to the end.

The work of a tortured idiot

This book is terrible, I now realise that one of the reasons that publishers exists is to stop nonsense like this from ever reaching an audience. There are so many poor aspects to this story but I will list a few:

1. The science is rubbish. I know it's science fiction but many of the things in this book are just plan wrong from a scientific point of view. Science fiction writers take the science that exists and project it into the future. This "author" gets most of today's science wrong which just spoils any attempt to project further. From that point everything he writes is just stupid.

2. Why don't we just re-write history in the most stupid way ever?

3. A convoluted plot is not necessarily a clever plot, particularly when the "author" lacks the talent to erm ... WRITE!

4. Some people just aren't meant to be writers. I never thought that this was true till I tortured myself by sitting through this rubbish. Despite the massive volume of work here the writer never seems to get better. The writing style remains poor, annoying, and uninteresting. I went to his website and at the time of this review the "author" is 38 years old and has been writing since he was 6. I think its time he stopped or at least kept his nonsense to himself.

5. What on earth the point of this story anyway? There is more hole than plot in this abject excuse of a story.

6. You don't need to be a scientist to write science fiction, but it helps if you can read and comprehend scientific theory better than a 3 year old.

7. Why are the Egyptian gods white?

8. The writer's tone is annoying, his characters are annoying, the plot is annoying such as it is ... there appears to be nothing worth reading in this story. I can't even use the book as toilet paper or pulp and recycle it since it is an audiobook.

9. I am not a twilight fan, I've never read the books, but I can bet the writer of the twilight saga would wipe the floor with this poor excuse for a writer. You have to have some kind of standard to be a popular author. Fox has none and has the cheek to lambast his betters in this indefensible excuse for a story.

10. Did this guy ever study past primary school? I really can't tell.

11. Why did Audible think it was a good idea to pedal this nonsense to us?

Wow

Surprisingly good twist on the Werewolves's, Vampire's and Zombie origin type books we all no and love. Great set of books, i found it hard to stop listening! Chris Fox has just found a new fan!! Only one thing I would like to moan about...... I personally think a prequel book should be at the start of the series but for some reason its been added to the end. There was a lot of small clues in the three books of how the main character became but waiting until the conclusion of the story to hear this i think was wrong. But all in all 10 out of 10.

Worth a listen if you are a fantasy or sci fi fan.

Slow to get started but builds momentum and is thoroughly enjoyable by the end. You can't take this book too seriously. Remember it is a story and not factual so any lore or characters taken out of history may not be correct but the way they are portrayed in this book really works.

You start listening and think you have made a mistake but the story gets deeper and more involved over time and has you questioning whether the main characters are right or wrong.

The main problem I had with this book is the crigeworthy recaps between the novels. You will understand when you listen. There are a few cheesy lines as well but look past them, this is worth listening to if you are a sci fi and fantasy fan.

Cliches and hackneyed prose

The plot once it gets going is entertaining, although somewhat linear. The author however seems unable to come up with a single line of original descriptive prose. You can look forward to “hails of bullets” and other similar phrases. The performer does their best, but you can almost hear their soul slowly dissolving as the book progresses.

enthralling

after many, many fantasy audio books this was a great change. a breath of fresh story.
exploring, adventure, danger and doom.
great characters and very cool premise.
