Publisher's summary

When a killer strikes just before flan time, beloved food critic Hayley Snow is forced to sniff out the killer before someone else bites the dust.

Hayley Snow, fiery food critic for Key Zest magazine, has just landed a ticket to one of the most prestigious events in Key West: a highbrow three-day conference at the Harry Truman Little White House. Even though she'll be working the event helping her mother's fledgling catering business, there's plenty of spicy gossip to go around. But just before her mother's decadent flan is put to the test, Key West's most prized possession, Hemingway's Nobel Prize gold medal for The Old Man and the Sea, is discovered stolen from its case.

Unsavory suspicions point to Gabriel, a family friend and one of the new busboys working the event, who mysteriously goes missing moments later. Anxious to clear his name, Gabriel's family enlists Hayley to help find him, but right as they begin their search, his body is found stabbed to death in the storeroom.

Hayley has no shortage of suspects to interrogate and very little time before the killer adds another victim to the menu in nationally best-selling author Lucy Burdette's delectable eighth Key West Food Critic mystery, Death on the Menu.

Story OK, At Times Difficult to Follow

While the story was generally good, it got mired down at times and therefore very difficult to follow. By the time I got to the end I was so ready for it to be over, I really wasn’t paying it a lot of attention. I just wanted it to be finished! I know that’s sad but as good as it was in the beginning, it was just that bad in the end.

Just okay

If I would have had to pay for this I would have returned it. I hate it when writers overuse a word or phrase unless it’s to “paint a picture” of the character. I’ve heard it happen in more accomplished writers and I grew weary of their books quickly. Not bad if you’re multi tasking while listening. The huge “wow” moment of B.O. was less than tolerable but that is merely my opinion because he was a fat zero in my political opinion. (As many of his predecessors were).

Liberal political views sours the story. The plot falls into predictable pattern and I couldn’t finish it.

The overt swooning over Obama and his perspectives stopped me fast. This was a very shallow book. Characters were cliches. Sorry but I was greatly unimpressed.

Key West

Not the best for holding one's attention I found it a bit boring but the mystery was good and well thought out.

A whispering narrator is annoying

The narrator whispers, it is very annoying and I couldn't get past the first ten minutes.

Whisper?

I couldn’t get past the narrator to get into the book. I tried but the “whispering” was annoying.

Boring

6 chapters into the book and still not interesting. Narrator has a nice voice. Why is there a word count minimum?

Stopped during Chapter 6.

Author more concerned with praising past President and policies on Cuba than telling a story. Sad, story had potential. I was looking forward to a cozy mystery not politics.

couldn't tell the difference between characters

I missed when one character started and the other ended. Other times the inflection didn't make sense. Liked the atory it self. it has potential.

Narrators voice annoying

Story boring, presented in a ho hum way… yawn. Moved very slowly in addition. Couldn’t stay the course!

Better than average

While not blow your socks off, this is definitely better than average for a cozy mystery, intrigue and fun galore with the characters
