Publisher's summary

Next Up for Auction: Murder.

When auctioneer Wren Morgan begins cataloging the contents of the Campbell mansion, she's unprepared to find something that can't be appraised - a dead man. After the body turns out to be a criminal with ties to a recent jewel heist, Wren comes face-to-face with Death Bogart. A private eye and part-time bounty hunter, Death is searching for the stolen jewels needed to convict a murderer.

Death finds a friend and willing ally in Wren, but they aren't the only ones searching for treasure. Two ruthless men are also on the hunt, and they will do anything to eliminate the competition. To survive, Death and Wren must solve two mysteries spanning a century and a half and outwit a pair of cold-blooded killers.

Great Book

Would you listen to Death and the Redheaded Woman again? Why?

Definitely. I love the characters and the story. Lots of information in addition to the story.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

It would be difficult to pick just one. Amanda does such a great job with different voices but also giving each character different personalities that come across. I love it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I am an avid fan of snarkiness in the characters that make me smile and brightens my day.

Any additional comments?

I love the combination of the great story by Loretta Ross along with the narration by Amanda Ronconi. I hope that Audible will get more books with this winning combo.

A fun light mystery.

Fun, light with a few giggles thrown in. If it becomes a series I would read the next one. Perfect read for a summers day.

PLEASE tell me book 2 is coming soon!

I'm on my 3rd listen in 4 days. Not only is Amanda Ronconi my favorite narrator, but the story has just the right amount of humor and humanity. The only drawback was Ms. Ronconi 's attempts at auctioneering, but even that is easy to overlook once you get caught up in the story.
l am anxiously awaiting the next book!

Beware open ending

This is a humorous detective story. Yes it is predictable. The predictability is presented in a way to keep it fresh. I found myself laughing out loud and smiling at many intervals. Wren's character needs more background given. She also needs more development. Death (pronounced DEE-TH) has better character development. The story stayed on track about finding the missing stolen jewels. The discovery of the 100+ year old gems was too pat. A little more research should have been done about Death's physical medical condition. There was inconsistency about what he could do vs what he did. Amanda Ronconi does a great job narrating the story. She has a great variety of voices. Amanda Ronconi's reading and the brisk plot kept my interest. I rated it only 2 stars because the ending is open. I hate open endings. I have too many open ended books already. Most will never have the sequel written. I prefer to live with my imagination pondering what the next book will be about. That way if it doesn't manifest I am not disappointed.

She glides from character to character. She carries/draws you through the story effortlessly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pleasant Surprise

If this book hadn't been a daily special, I may have missed out on a GREAT listen. I really enjoy Amanda Ronconi's readings of the "Guest House" mystery series and was excited to hear her talents with this as well. While the author gets some Marine-isms incorrect, they are easily overlooked by how great the characters are. I haven't listened to a boo, this fast the whole time I've been with Audible. I recommend this to fans of similar cozy mysteries. Also, February 2016 can't come soon enough for the second book! Congrats to Ms. Ross on her first novel - well done!

This Series is a Surprise Gem

I review maybe two percent of my audible purchases, but this series is one of the best I have encountered in quite a while. It is well written, and the dialogue is laugh out loud funny. The premise is one that isn't encountered often enough, and the stories are meticulously plotted. i actually looked up the author and no wonder I am fanning. This is a woman I wish I could know. I confess I call this kind of literature brain candy, but it is absolutely brilliant brain candy! Warning, don't start it in the evening if you want to get up early the next morning.
