Despite her husband's objections, Lucy offers to help out at the school until a replacement can be found, hoping the children might inadvertently reveal a clue, but by doing so she may be putting her own life at risk...

Mayhap the author needs a thesaurus

Perhaps just don’t use an adverb at the beginning of a sentence. Perhaps it is not needed.

The voice of the elderly butler is painful through earbuds.

Otherwise, it is a decent addition to the series.
