Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich with Justin Paul, Steven Levenson and Benji Pasek, read by Ben Levi Ross, Mike Faist and Mallory Bechtel.

Dear Evan Hansen,

Today's going to be an amazing day, and here's why....

When a letter that was never meant to be seen by anyone draws high school senior Evan Hansen into a family's grief over the loss of their son, he is given the chance of a lifetime: to belong. He just has to stick to a lie he never meant to tell, that the notoriously troubled Connor Murphy was his secret best friend.

Suddenly, Evan isn't invisible anymore - even to the girl of his dreams. And Connor Murphy's parents, with their beautiful home on the other side of town, have taken him in like he was their own, desperate to know more about their enigmatic son from his closest friend. As Evan gets pulled deeper into their swirl of anger, regret, and confusion, he knows that what he's doing can't be right, but if he's helping people, how wrong can it be?

No longer tangled in his once-incapacitating anxiety, this new Evan has a purpose. And a website. He's confident. He's a viral phenomenon. Every day is amazing. Until everything is in danger of unraveling and he comes face to face with his greatest obstacle: himself.

A simple lie leads to complicated truths in this big-hearted coming-of-age story of grief, authenticity and the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.

I cried.

This story is one that I knew was going I hurt me. The musical made me cry and this was such a different story and yet the same. I loved exploring Connor in a way we hadn’t been able to before.

I really like it, if you're an student this call really make you it feel like it's you. I really like it because it hits your emotions and it's amazing because of the language and the story. Evan is the main character and the way they tell the story is really good, this wants me to get the book :D

Just okay

I had high hopes for this book after reading the reviews, but honestly it didn’t live up to expectations. Evan wasn’t a very likeable main character and the story wasn’t particularly interesting. I hate to say that when it’s a story about suicide, which is obviously heartbreaking, but it didn’t really grip me like other YA novels.

Beautifully hard to hear

Every teenager should be made to read or listen to this story. It should be on the curriculum. The lessons it teaches about life, how the smallest of actions can snowball out of hand is really important. Yes, the subject matter is difficult to listen to at times but that’s what makes this story so powerful. Every character is perfect. Please, recommend it to everyone. Can’t wait to see the stage show later this year with my daughter.

Loved this book and I haven’t seen the show at the theatre yet!

I really loved this book, it reminded me of a John green book or a Becky Albertalli book so would strongly recommend if you like these authors. Can’t wait to see the show next year in London, just a shame Ben Platt won’t be playing Evan😿

Perfectly Captures the Spirit of the Broadway Show

This is a heartbreaking and also heartwarming story. You feel the emotion of the characters, particularly the titular character, Evan Hansen. Reading this gave further depth to the beautiful story that is Dear Evan Hansen, the Musical.
