In the year 1833, two young brothers journey into the Wild West to seek their fortune; little do they know they're embarking on the adventure of their lives. Expecting to stumble upon riches as they make their way westward, sixteen-year-old Dillon Griffith and his older brother Owen instead encounter hardship after hardship in the form of Indian raids, bloodthirsty villains, robbery, and kidnapping. With the help of a Shawnee trapper and scout, a runaway slave-turned-mountain man, and a beautiful American Indian warrior, the brothers battle the unexpected setbacks and obstacles that life in the West throws their way, and endeavor to find their place on the American frontier.

Packed full of riveting action, gore, and vengeance, Deadville paints a thrilling - and historically pristine - picture of life in the Old West, from the physical environment to the social and economic milieus of frontier society. Jones' famously meticulous research, inviting literary style, and suspenseful plot succeed in transporting listeners to a time when lawlessness prevailed and buffalo roamed - when the belief in Manifest Destiny took America by storm and changed the country forever.

Reseñas editoriales

John McLain's narrates Deadville by Robert Jones with a gruff and virile voice that is as American as Clint Eastwood. When two brothers venture out West to find their fortune in 1833, they are struck again and again with unexpected misfortune and adventure along their path, including kidnappings, ruthless villains, bloody encounters with Indians, and robbery. Extensively researched and skillfully told, Deadville is a classic western with a rollicking sense of pace that never pauses for breath. Listeners will return to this classic again and again.

The format was an old man reminiscing and confusing. The story had too many coincidences, and protagonists were weak, should have destroyed their enemy who was a wicked cruel man. Instead one joined him. Made no sense.

Hard to follow

The story seemed interesting enough but I found myself constantly a step behind trying to figure out if I missed a detail that would bring clarity to my confusion. I would rewind, re listen, but no, the key just didn’t exist. I finally had everything flowing well only to have 4-6 chapters remaining. Good enough listen but I wanted a bit more.

I was mostly lost.

I enjoyed the story. Lot of characters, but the narrator does a good job of helping the audience keep them straight. The historical information included in the story is fascinating and makes the story that much more believable. I enjoyed this tale very much.

Kinda dry, but the storyline is interesting
