Six Straight Great Novels Creates A Dynasty

Erica Foster is always a great study of a driven detective. In Deadly Secrets, we see her influence on her subordinates. It’s simply another great addition to the series.

Harry Hole, Three Pines, Department Q are my standard bearers for police procedurals. Erica Foster is on equal ground.

Fascinating murder mystery; great detective work!

Robert Bryndza is among the best living authors of the modern detective/police procedural genre. Deadly Secrets, Book 6 in his Detective Erika Foster series, is as close to perfection as any novel I have read. Erika Foster is among my favorite protagonists. Jan Cramer's narration is outstanding. I highly recommend Deadly Secrets and the other novels in the Erika Foster series.

Some excellent hiding of the gun

A good mystery places little obscure hints for the reader to discover. This book successfully did that. It wasn’t obvious, but it was there for the observant reader to pick up on. I can’t explain without spoilers, so I shall leave it at that. There is some excellent writing in this. I really appreciate the realistic female characters. Really wonderful. Bryndza is really one of those authors that have impressed me (and that’s no small feat, I am a total Grinch when it comes to reading)

Gripping Thriller is right!

I’ve enjoyed this whole series but book 6 is by far the best book since the first book! I enjoyed the twists and turns and finally the inability to know if I truly solved the mystery! A must read for mystery thriller lovers.

Bryndza nails it again!

This was another thrilling, fast-paced installment in the Erika Foster series (book 6). The detective work by the characters is outstanding and every time I think I’ve figured something out, I’m wrong. One of my favorite series ever and I’m bummed that #7 isn’t out yet.

Finally some detective work

It took 5 books for Mr. Bryndza to upgrade from police procedurals to detective novel. This book shows his experience. Not everything is as simple as it seems and few plot twists are waiting for you.

I am looking forward next installment.

Unexpected ending

Up to the standard of the rest of this series. I must say I was getting a bit fed up with dour Erika, always disobeying orders, behaving appallingly and getting away with it. Nice to hear a bit more about her and her colleagues. Clever plot, and an unexpected ending. Jan Cramer is an excellent narrator

Absolutely perfect

The Erika Foster books are about my favourite of all crime series and the latest book is one of the best. Ericka is a fascinating character who I have grown to really care about and the other characters, both goodies and baddies, are real and convincing. The plot develops quickly and moves in a range of different directions before coming together in an unexpected and very satisfying conclusion.

Jan Cramer is one of my favourite narrators, she really inhabits all the characters.

Can’t wait for the next one.

Ridiculous plot

I have really enjoyed the Erika foster series but this book really let the side down. Very disappointing ending and seemed a very rushed conclusion, as if she realised there was only a few chapters left so needed to fit it all in. Narrator was poor making every character sound rude and aggressive. A real let down after such a great series

Painful narration

I found the general story ok but the narration was poor. It was as if she had done little to no preparation and simply picked up the book and read it for the first time. Every character sounded aggressive, especially the male police officers and she failed to accurately express the emotions behind each character and the context of what they were saying. The overall result was very flat and very quickly read....disapointing as I think it could have been so much better if not for this. Just my opinion but there it is.

Really enjoyable series

I’ve listened to the whole series this week. The characters are warm and intelligent (in the main). Their relationships are engaging and developed nicely. The crimes are varied and I like the fact that time doesn’t pass quickly, for example, one book ends just before Christmas, the next starts at Christmas. So while in real life, it would be dreadful (and hopefully unlikely) for officers to move from one horrific crime, immediately into another it’s enjoyable for readers/listeners to stay in touch with the characters I think. I hope there will be a book 7. I love books with strong relationships and these are characters I’ll miss though I’m going straight on to another new series so I’ll probably love those characters too. Fickle or what?!

Hard to listen to

The story was rather good but oh how I wish I had read this book instead of listening to the audible version. As in other books she has narrated, Jan Cramer speaks with such a belligerent voice that it makes it impossible to find the book credible. I can’t believe that all English people are so whiney and miserable. The narrator in this book certainly portrays that.

I enjoyed Deadly Secrets

Most of the book was a page turner. Robert Bryndza was able to portray the multiple facets of a women’s professional and personal life realistically.
The book was too long. The ending wasn’t believable.

***Mind blowing ending***

Robert Bryndza never fail to blow my mind, this is an incredibly intelligent and well thought off plot and the characters are well developed. It's gripping and totally sucked me in from beginning and not prepared for the austounding twist ending that blew my mind. Detective Erika Foster took a bit of a backseat in favour of Detective Kate Moss, it chilled my bones when the killer got hold of Moss. Jan Cramer is brilliant as always. I am happy for Detective Petersen but sad for Erika I do hope she will get her happy ending.
