Story
No longer the leader of the Olympians, Konstantin has now gone into hiding. Konstantin is vulnerable, and Anderson believes now is the perfect time to destroy his nemesis. He orders private eye Nikki Glass to use her powers to locate Konstantin, and she balks at the idea until a series of attacks leads her to believe that Konstantin is gunning for her and Anderson instead of remaining safely in hiding. Nikki's search is complicated by Cyrus - Konstantin's son and the new leader of the Olympians - who threatens retribution should his father be killed.

As a dreamwalker, I can ease your nightmares, inspire creation, or steal memories, all for the small price of a buttload of cash. I need the money to save my mom’s life, and the clock is ticking. Then a gorgeous illusionist comes into the picture, and he sends me on a job with a major paycheck. Now I’m knee-deep in a murder case where the victims and the perps could all kill me with a snap of their fingers. Throw in a creepy castle, a stinky moat, and a legendary monster, and we’ve got ourselves a party, especially when the bodies begin to pile up.

For a decade, I’ve hated the supernaturals who owned my world. I hunted them. I killed them. And now, in the most grand twist of fate - I am bonded to one of them. Oh, the irony. Being a supernatural bounty hunter isn’t exactly a popular job. But after the magic wars, there aren’t many things a human can do that will put food on the table. Thankfully, anything my right hook can’t handle, my guns can. Or so I thought.

Publisher's Summary
As a living descendant of Artemis the Huntress, private investigator Nikki Glass knows how to track someone down. But when an Oracle shows up, warning the Descendants about wild dog attacks in Washington, D.C., Nikki is afraid it might be a trap. The Olympians believe the "dogs" are really jackals, controlled by a blood-crazed descendant of the Egyptian death-god Anubis.
Whatever. If Nikki hopes to muzzle Dogboy, she's got to catch him in the act. But when she stakes out a local cemetery, she ends up face-to-snout with a snarling pack of shadow-jackals whose bite is worse than their bark. These hellhounds are deadly - even for an immortal like Nikki. "Dog" spelled backward may be "god", but that won't stop Nikki from teaching these old gods some new tricks. Like playing dead.

LOVED IT!
Loved It!
The second book is is as good as the first. This one gets deeper into the characters pasts and their specific powers. Nikki is a Private Investigator. She is smart, headstrong and daring. She also has a good heart. She has the power of the hunt and learns that she can find people in an unusual way. She is also very good with all weapons.
I also love Anderson's and Jamal's characters. Very cool powers!
The narrator does very wonderful job with all the character's voices. Her voice is clear and is easy to listen to.
This is such a good series! I can't wait for the 3rd book!!

Great Second Book
I was very please with this book. The author has continues the story she started in the first book and there is not drop off as there are so many times with an authors second book. Ms. Black continues with another great story line and plenty of twists to keep you interested and Ms. Eastlake continues to do a great job of narrating. I eagerly await the next in this series. I have made this series one of my top 3 to keep an eye out for the next book in the series.

Decent
Yeah, pretty good follow up. Not quite as strong as the first, but still good. I get a little annoyed when we have to listen to too much whiny internal turmoil that is OBVIOUS to the reader how it will turn out. I can't say too much about it because it's at the end of the book. But I found myself doing a LOT of eye rolls at her inner dialogue, choices and hopes that someone will save her. It was just weird. That aside, I enjoyed the book, plot and characters and will give the next book a chance.

A Refreshing Urban Fantasy Novel
Any additional comments?
Unlike most other novels and series in this genre, Jenna Black's series about Nikki Glass is a breath of fresh air. There is no romance at all in the first book, and the romance in Deadly Descendant, the second installment, is developing at a snail's pace. For some reason, this makes me all the more eager to find out where things go in book three. The concept of the series also veers away from the genre's status quo. Descendants of gods, who can steal immortality from other descendants by killing them, leaves Black's main characters teetering between good and evil. And by creating characters that inherited diluted powers of mythological gods (I think she's only included Greek and Norse gods so far) she's given herself a treasure trove of inspiration that I hope will continue in the next book, because it's done her well so far. I definitely recommend.

So-So
I liked the first book. This one I didn't connect with. The story wasn't too exciting. The character development wasn't there. Infact I felt more of a disconnect with characters. I really liked Anderson but in this book he seemed constantly angry and more of a punisher. The romance was not very steamy nor romantic. It felt like she liked him because he was there and mean to her. That lead me to dislike the main character, doesn't she have self respect!? I do not plan to continue the series after this.
