Publisher's Summary

Lukas Boston suffers a bad start to his day. There's a ghost standing in the corner of his bedroom, Lukas got too drunk the night before and he can't remember his new girlfriend's name, and when he opens his window for a breath of fresh air, a sniper puts a bullet in Lukas' wall. His landlady is going to hate that.

Welcome to the world of Lukas Boston, a private investigator who attracts cold-blooded killers, hot-blooded women, and really unhelpful ghosts.

Fun start to a promising series

Before Graeme Hague started writing his Horror Story Volumes he did the Lucas Boston series. If you have listened to any of his Horror Stories you know that Hague does a great job both telling a paranormal story and narrating his own work. Lucas Boston is no different.

Lucas is basically your typical over indulging, womanizing, former cop who is now a PI for hire. Lucas can take a beating and keeps on ticking, if only he can find that darn cat. What makes Lucas different is that he can see and talk with ghosts. Dead Wrong is a fantastic start to the Lucas Boston world. The story has all the elements needed, it is humorous, sexy, action packed, and a great mystery. The side story with Barbara and Ester really ties the whole story together.

As always the narration is superb. The quality is fantastic and Hague's character voice's are spot on. Really looking forward to the next chapter.

Solid P. I. Mystery Book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead Wrong to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narrator has a charming Australian accent which adds character to the book. The narrator gives a great perfomance and nails the female characters. He gives each character a distinct voice and maintains that voice throughout. After a few chapters, the narrators voice fades into the background as the action of the story takes over. This is the mark of a great narrator.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Beth. It is unusual for books of this genre with sluttly male characters to have realistic female characters that do not want to sleep with them. Beth is a competant, honest, likeable woman with a wicked sense of humour and a quick wit. She does not want to sleep with Lukas because he is a player. She recognizes his charm and prudently resists it. The interaction between Lukas and Beth is very entertaining.

What does G.M.Hague bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I discussed the narrator above, so now I will discuss the author. This book is unusual for its genre in two ways. It has a believable girl character discussed above, and it is light and fun. Most P. I. novels are dark and heavy. This is a bit dark, but in an entertaining and fun way. The plot is action packed with several surprises that arise from the story authentically. The dialogue is a bit canned in places, but it is a P. I. novel, so that is to be expected. The main character is a jovial, frolicsome version of the dark P. I. stereo-type. The other characters are also novel takes on the stereotypical bad guys. This book is a lot of fun.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

When Rival Mob Bosses are After You, It's Time to Go To Church.

Any additional comments?

Just ok.....

Not sure how I feel about Lukas Boston. For me, he wasn't terribly likable so I wasn't crazy about what was going on with him. I can't see all these women throwing themselves at him and he didn't appear to me to be a great detective either. I also didn't see much point to him being able to see dead people. Overall, I couldn't really get into this book. I really wanted to like it so I thought maybe I just wasn't in the mood to listen to this type of book. I went back and listened to it again and still felt the same way. I did, however, like the narration. Fun Paranormal PI Series Start

I really enjoy a horror/comedy, so it's no surprise that I enjoy a paranormal/thriller/comedy. Lukas Boston is a truly unlikable character, but that didn't stop me from enjoying listening to him struggle through is day-to-day life, especially since unhelpful ghosts just won't let him be. This book is a fun mix of silliness, crimes and ghosts. If that sounds good to you, you'll love 'Dead Wrong!'

Fun and murder in Australia!

excop, PI, Australia, suspense, ghosts, action-adventure, situational-humor, verbal-humor -----
Laughed my sox off! If you want politically correct this is not it, but if locker room language and tavern humor is alright, I guarantee that you will have great fun! Now a PI without the constraints of being on the force, yet having an in who is reluctant help, Lukas is tasked with too many weird things and people. All of the characters truly are and you really can't help enjoying the predicaments everybody gets into. Bullets whine and clients nag but that's not the craziest part. Guess you'll just have to find out for yourself!
I requested and received a free audio copy courtesy of AudioBookBOOM.
The best part is that the author is the narrator! You never go wrong with that, and in this case it makes the laughs even funnier!

Good!

I really enjoyed the humor in this thriller. The mystery was really well done and I enjoyed the narrators voice. Can't wait for book 2!

Wasn't sure what to expect, but I liked it!

I regularly read this author's Horror Story volumes, so I'm quite familiar with his work. The Horror Stories are diverse-enough that this story isn't a huge change for him IMO, and it shows. Hague steps into this like he's been writing this series for ages, and I immediately felt at home with the character.

There's enough mystery and shenanigans to keep just about anyone's attention, and though I felt like there were a few things left unexplained (how can others see the ghosts that he does?), I'd hope to see those explored in future installations.

Worth noting for those sensitive to it that there's a bit more sex in these than Hague's other stories. I'd noticed that in his recent stories things tended to get a tad more heated (sexually-speaking). Nothing over the top, just more mentions of it than had been typical. G.M. fully unleashed the beast in this novel though, and yet it fit and flowed so well that it wasn't gratuitous or out of place at all (heck, I started to both envy and pity the guy!).

I was given this book gratis by the author in exchange for my review, and I can honestly recommend it. I would love to read what's next!

Solid first entry into new series

A funny paranormal PI book which introduces some fun things to build on. A solid entry into Lukas Boston's world, and a good mix of humor and thrills. The narration was good from G.M. Hague, and I look forward to hearing more from him, since this isn't the longest piece to get his entire range of abilities from.

I look forward to more escapades from the series, and hearing more from the narrator.

A poor mans James Bond with a paranormal twist

Would you listen to Dead Wrong again? Why?

To be honest its unlikely I would listen to the book again ( not in the near future anyway) as although I enjoyed the story overall the parts where the main character had his erm encounters shall we say without giving anything away were more, to me, appealing to a guy as they I presume is what many men daydream about even though you only getting the setting, not as you might say the action. That was very well done I have to admit, you really do 'see 'the scene in your mind.

The author really has a great way with words.

I will listen to the rest of the books in the series as they become available on Audible but whether I will want to read them again only time will tell

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead Wrong?

Nothing really as one event followed another until the end all very similar in some ways even though they all helped the story along.

Have you listened to any of G.M.Hague’s other performances? How does this one compare?

First one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nothing as not that type of book

Any additional comments?

Overall its a great easy listen book which though I feel will appeal to guys more it still has its attraction for woman - can I call it a mans chick lit although the author leaves more to your imagination than many of them and to me that is a mark of a good book rather than everything spelt out as you might say. Your imagination, in my opinion, should always be made to work when listening ( or reading) a novel otherwise its like reading a textbook.

So if you want a quick enjoyable read with a dash of paranormal I would say read it.

I was giving this book free in the hope I would give a fair and honest review and I have tried my best to do this.

Maybe you're not as stupid as you smell

Lucas Boston is now a private investigator with friends in the police department: he'd been there, too, himself some years before but jumped before they could throw him out. So when the ghost of an old con thought dead five years before, suddenly appears in his room and then, shortly after, a very real bullet is fired at him, he decides to looking again at the old drugs case when Gavin, the ghost, first went missing and seeks the help of old colleague Detective Sergeant Pete Goodall. In return, Pete asks a favour of Lucas - to call on a lady whose cat was missing. But although she might love her cat, she's out for a lot more than it's simple return ...

What an excellent 'find' this book was. Not having previously heard of the author, I took a chance, requested and was generously gifted a complimentary copy by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much - it was an absolute delight, from the quirky characters, through bizarre situations to the mystery itself, the laugh out loud humour and the great narration by the author himself. So often this latter can prove disastrous, but not this time. Mr.G.M.Hague relates his first person text with whit and eloquence, catching the personality of P.I. Logan to perfection as well as giving skillful voice to the other protagonists. His Australian accent, obvious but not overly pronounced, gives further colour and enriches the story.
There are ghosts, but this is far from being a paranormal story. It is a glorious mystery romp with thrills and lots of fun.
I hope to see a lot more of Lukas Boston.
