Publisher's summary

Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with.

He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He's turned it into a lucrative career putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course.

When he left LA fifteen years ago, he thought he'd never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him.

But now his sister's been brutally murdered and Carter wants to find out why.

Was it the gangster looking to settle a score? The ghost of a mage he killed the night he left town? Maybe it's the patron saint of violent death herself, Santa Muerte, who's taken an unusually keen interest in him.

Carter's going to find out who did it, and he's going to make them pay.

As long as they don't kill him first.

Great premise; Bad execution

The world created in this book is very interesting. The lead character waffles between cocky and self-effacing. Too much to be believed. could have done better

Could have been better

Narration was not paced well. Story could be better. The humor falls flat I guess from the pace of the narration. Either the narrator or the editors fault.

Story good - narrator bad

Ugga bugga! I know my title sounds cavemannish but man after coming off my high of binging Harry Dresden and the awesome narration by James Marsters - this one made my head hurt. All the characters sounded like Woody Allen ugh. It’s too bad too because the story was really interesting if you can get past the voices.

Narrator is terrible

Story is good, narrator is not. They want me to have 15 words so here

Good start for a series.

I laughed. I swore. I enjoyed this book.
Didn't know what to expect, but the overall concept for the magic in this world is interesting.
Loving the Santa Muerte angle, never enough of the old gods anymore.
Could have flowed a little better, but never lost my interest.
Mr. Black moor DEFINITELY knows Los Angeles.

Not Harry!

I liked the story. The narrator was not good. His "voices" made me cringe. I'm still looking for a great series.

high quality Dresden Clone

if you are a fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, then this book is right up your alley. only major downside is that it's written in present tense, which was really jarring to listen to for the first couple hours.

Finally!

it's been what felt like forever to find another story up to par with the likes of Harry Dresden. book 1 in this series has done just that for me, I'm very interested in where the story goes from here.

Okay but not great

This is not a full story as it ends with unresolved plot lines. I never felt much sympathy for the main protagonist and the narrator wasn’t great.

Cannot Tolerate The Narrator

I gave this book 3 hours and cannot tolerate the narrator anymore. I suggest going to the library and actually reading it. I want my 1/2 credit back!
