Disappointing from the start...

I'll start by admitting two things: 1) I'm only eight chapters into book one and 2) I'm a zombie horror snob.

I've read so many amazing books and series like White Flag of The Dead and Arisen, that this is what I've come to expect. Relatable characters, gripping story, flowing conversations, and believable(ish) scenes. So far this book hasn't delivered any of it.

The primary characters are just so stereotypical they are unbelievable. Conversations are choppy and awkward, there is NO sense of fear or panick even when death is imminent. It all just falls flat.

It was an ok start

I'm trying this new author and the story is ok so far. I just think the narrator is the one who brings the story to life. Hopefully the next books Narrator is better and doesn't sound like their reading a paragraph in front of a high school class

Story has potential but.....

I could see where this story has potential but the narrator is so monotone that the story is flat. She drones on and on, giving the story no life. Sorry, I just couldn't finish it.

sorry

I don't know if it's the narrator or the story, but I just can't get into it.

I wish I'd read this

This was alright. I'm really into strong female roles but this was a bit much, not wanting to give any spoilers. There were parts I got confused on because it seemed like time was missing (I'm sure it was jumping forward) but there were things that I'd be like wait, when did they get to this place?
I also didnt understand how they immediately knew what they were when it started and I couldn't figure out how much time was passing or had passed since it all started. How did a group of skinheads take over a ton of Texas in the course of a week? idk maybe that was one of the parts I missed bc of all the jumping around.
overall, it was a fun listen for about half the book and the time did fly by. I was left feeling like it was missing a LOT though.

Amateur hour

Seems very amateur. There are so many discrepancies. I’d pick it apart but that would take all night.

The narration is decent but definitely does not match thus story. I would listen to this narrator again but not in this context.

I will avoid this author in the future.

Pretty good listen.

The first thing i want to get out of the way is that if you are looking for characters you haven't seen before you can keep on moseying along. The characters in this book while interesting and funny at times are somewhat cookie cutter for the genre, with bits of frosting to differentiate them.

There's a little too much human on human fighting for my liking, and the time scale of it all seems more than a little out of wack. But beyond that its a pretty engaging listen, The main character is likeable if a little too badass. And i don't mean i find t o her unbelievable, i mean for i've certainly seen characters like her that are way more badass that people don't blink an eye at.
I mean that i don't really get a sense of who she really is other than a woman who has stepped up and takes no prisoners.

I hope as the series continues i get to see characters developed more and for my other notes to get addressed. The book is a fun and engaging read, i just have listened to very many zombie books so i may be a bit critical.

Really?

Characters. People. Emotion. Even the most basic plot can be excellent with characters that are intriguing. This book offered flat characters that needed some effort into creating someone for the reader to care about. I cannot offer an opinion on the story itself as I couldn’t get past book 1.
