A stalker. A liar. A dead man.

A mysterious letter-writer causes havoc on the idyllic Bader University campus. After a professor receives numerous poison pen letters more and more threatening in nature, Josie Tucker is on the case...grudgingly.

All the grumpy food blogger wants is to be left in peace with her dog, her man, and her laptop. She certainly doesn't need her own gang of meddling kids. Now, she's the leader of their pack.

I enjoy mystery books that have great suspense, good writing, and are light and funny with a hint of darkness. I have exhausted Molly Harper books, Diana Rowland books and Jesse Petesen books. Those books all have a supernatural twist (although Harper's Rythm and Bluegrass series is normal). This series is very comparable to those minus the supernatural. The author is witty and the plot is fun. It is well-written with great suspense and a satisfying ending. The character are well-developed and likable. The narrator is excellent and a perfect match for the main character. She performs each of the other characters with aplomb.

The strength of this book is the original plot idea and the situational comedy. Having an adult go undercover to a university and live in the dorms provides for hilarious situations. It is made believable by the fact that a large donor requests that Josie be assigned to the case and that she is a licensed, if inexperienced private detective. The way colleges cover up crimes (rape, theft, corruption) is well-known, so this is very believable.

The main character is a lovable but grouchy character--the kind of role usually reserved for men like Al Bundy, Jay Pritchett (same guy, updated character), Archie Bunker, Frazier and Walter Mattau. She is like Sue Slyvester in Glee but nicer. Her old friends and the new friends that she forms into a "Scobbie" sort of gang are delightful. One of the funniest scenes is when she realizes that her college crew isn't familiar with the "Scobbie Doo" show and one of the kids refers to Shaggy as a hipster. He doesn't know the difference between a hipster and a real hippy. Later in the conversation, it is revealed that they are confusing "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with "Twilight." Josie responds by requiring that they all come over to a mandatory "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" binge watching session at the conclusion of the case because she is worried about their lack of cultural knowledge. This is a great book.

I received this book for free from the author, narrator, or pubisher in exchange for an honest review.

Dead Man on Campus

After finishing this novel, I discovered it is the third in the Josie series. I have not read the first two. Thus said, I didn't have any reference point to understand Josie.

A "maybe P.I." goes undercover on a college campus to find out who is stalking a professor. There are plenty of twists and turns and suspense, toss in romance and young adult drama, mix well..........ta da........a fun listen.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Kate Warner was enjoyable to listen to.

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book! It had a lot of originality and was not predictable. The story line was excellent. I would definitely enjoy listening to other books in the Josie Tucker series.

A Great Mystery!

snark-fest, women-sleuths, mystery

What fun! Twentynine year old Josie getting planted as an undergrad doesn't sound too bad, but she has to live in a freshman dorm! The timing of this assignment is very unfortunate, but she does feel obligated to help find the professor's stalker. A couple of conventional students become her "Scooby Gang" and more madness ensues. The plot is well crafted and the characters certainly are, and the laughs are as entertaining as the suspense! Great light reading.
Kate Warner is absolutely perfect for this! She's got the chirpy and the snarky down to a science.

Really enjoyed listening to this, great mystery. Josie is great, especially when she is “hangry”. The narrator was great and really brought Josie’s scarcastic attitude to life. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
