Tried, convicted, executed...and innocent?

One of the reasons Mark Banning had become a private detective was to help those with seemingly "lost cause" cases no one else would take. The case Diedre Hammond begged him to take seemed hopeless - DNA evidence proved her brother had raped and killed a six-year-old.

Months had passed since Diedre's brother, Sam, had been executed, protesting his innocence up to the moment of execution. But all the evidence had pointed to him unerringly. It was too late to save her brother but not too late to clear her brother's name and see that justice was served to the real criminal, whomever that might be.

So she brought her case to Mark Banning and pleaded for his help. When he heard the case against her brother, Banning thought it was a lost cause, and he hated to take her money. But she was insistent, and lost causes were his specialty, so he accepted the assignment reluctantly.

The deeper Banning dug, the more dead ends he found. Had it been a case of mistaken identity? No, even the DNA evidence had led exclusively to Sam. Then maybe the lab had botched it?

Diedre's family had cut all ties with them long ago, at about the time of Sam's arrest. The reasons for it were vague and mysterious. Was there some long-buried secret regarding Diedre and Sam, unknown perhaps even to all, or nearly all, of the family as well?

Just when Banning was about to give up, he must have gotten a little closer to an answer than he realized because someone struck him down and left him to die....

The real killer had made a mistake. He had proved Diedre was right, and he had made it personal. Banning would stop at nothing now to catch him.

What a twisted dark path of deceit this story uncovered!! I empathized with Sam and his true loved ones. Grateful that some justice was finally found, too late. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

excellent

From the get-go, I wanna know who is the real evil man and how the jury convicted an innocent man. Another can’t put it down book. Performance by Tim Lundeen is great. Brooks and Lundeen are great.

Another gripping story

The MC Banning is a private detective who takes on cases that no one else take. On this case after investigating and coming to the same conclusion as the police is tells his client that it is over. Just after that Banning's home and office get ransacked and the case is going once again. Narrator does a good job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline of this book.

Decent Murder Mystery

Author Stephen L. Brooks crafted a suspenseful and distressful whodunit. Hiring P.I. Mark Manning, the sister of an executed man accused of murder, wants Manning to dig through all evidence and those involved to prove his brother’s innocence. Midway through, I figured the ending out. Narrator Tim Lundeen does a well enough job, however, I found one slight problem. I prefer that narrators read the book and stop changing voice levels to imitate characters, especially female and children. It is quite distracting. Tell the story. That’s the only slight flaw in this complex, though disturbing murder mystery. I received a free copy at my request in exchange for an honest review.
