Story
Wealthy philanthropist Arthur Wells, in need of a family getaway with his wife, Joan, and his daughter, Emma, arranges a trip to Romania. His intention is to explore an ancient cave system he read about, located in Constanta, on the Black Sea coast. The name of the cave, unearthed in 1986, is Pestera Movile. It has been sealed from the light of day for over five-and-a-half million years, preserved beneath more than 20 meters of clay. In this harsh, chemosynthetic environment, Arthur stumbles across something he hopes will advance medical science.

His hands knew how to fight. His fingers knew the ways of war. Gunny, Griz, and the crew have one more mission south of the border, the Traveler is looking to right some wrongs, and Jessie is trapped in a faraway place. The undead hordes are as vicious as ever, and a simple rescue mission gets real complicated real quick. This is the final two-fisted, gas-guzzling, gear-grinding thrill ride of the Zombie Road saga. More tales to come, but this concludes the story that started with the Convoy of Carnage.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
As Flex, his niece Trina, Gem, Hemp, and Charlie brave the wild world teeming with the walking dead, they make up the rules as they go along.
Flex Sheridan was an electrician before the world took a nasty turn; Gem, an artist. Hemp is a scientist who specializes in epidemics and also carries in his bag of tricks a mechanical engineering degree. Charlie is a metal and punk rocker in her mid-twenties, proficient enough to take out two zombies at once with her crossbow.
Each one of them has their own story. This volume is Gem's chronicle. They know they must stay safe, but they know that to simply hide away is to allow the creatures who crave human flesh to walk the world forever. Join them as they struggle to balance their natural tendencies toward self-preservation with their strong desire to rid the world of the zombie scourge. Our band of machine gun-toting nomads moves from place to place in fortified vehicles, keeping their eyes peeled for survivors, and zombie battles ensue at nearly every turn.
But this is not a world where love dies...this is a moment in history when human connections and things of beauty are more important than ever; things to be embraced and cherished. So hop in the Crown Victoria with the ballistic steel body and the swiveling AK-47 on the top, and hang on to your seat as Gem powers the car through hordes of zombies and gets her precious Trina and Flex where they need to be.
Learn what Hemp and Charlie discover in the lab - a huge clue to what caused the epidemic that has 90% of the world hunting the rest.
But after you meet this group, you'll begin to wonder: Who are the hunters, and who are the hunted?

Eric Shelman reading Eric Shelman.....enough said
I have loved this series for years. Read all the books so why not listen to them ???? what makes an Eric Shelman book that much better.....well, Eric Shelman reading Eric Shelman. Gem is a no nonsense girl who knows how to survive, knows how to love and knows how to keep those around her safe, as safe as one can be in a zombie apocalypse. HIGHLY recommend The Gem Cardoza Chronicle as well as the entire series.

If you are the author please read this
I am a huge huge fan of the zombie genre and I even enjoy the cheesy campy kind of stories that are out there.
However the author of this particular book has destroyed the story. I mean don't get me wrong the actual story itself is not without Merit and it could become a good if not even great little book, however I love you so much and damn I'm so in love with you and I love that kid and I would die for you any minute and I love you with all my heart every other sentence just wears on you.
I mean the apocalypse is great but not every other sentence or paragraph has to reafirm your love for somebody. At least let your actions speak louder than your words. It just wears thin on the soul.
I mean it's almost as if you are using it to fill in the gaps of the story where you don't know what else to write.
I think if you were to pull back from the Romantic a little and focus on the genre and the dystopian type of world they live in it could be a great story.
We don't need this I love you constant mouth vomit stuff going on and we don't need the soft porn either, really just take a step back and think about what you're doing to your book. I think this could be a great novel. You've just got to quit focusing so much on the love story and work on the zombie story.
I'm telling you as a woman who loves to be complimented I would be just about at my limit with someone needing the constant reassurance and reaffirmation of our love.
Please Please for the sake of the zombies at least stop.....they are all going to develop diabetes from the constant sweetheart crud.

Amazing
I got to know the narrator from his work narrating a different series of books and I can definitely hear his emotions in his own work. Flex and Gema really come to life in this installment and I had to remember this was Gema's point of view. it's gritty and visceral, the end of life as we know it will never be pretty. 2 thumbs up here Eric

Another great book in the series
This book is written from the view of Gem rather than Flex like the first book. The author did a fantastic job of capturing her personality in it. It really did feel like it was written by a woman, much more emotional! Really enjoyed listening to it and looking forward to the next book in the series. Learned lots about the science behind the Zombie outbreak, possible cures and ways to kill them.
