Publisher's summary

Sheriff Bree Taggert’s downfall is part of a killer’s cunning design in #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of murder, lies, and revenge.

Called to an isolated farm to check on an elderly widow, Sheriff Bree Taggert finds a brutal double homicide. One of the victims is Eugene Oscar, the bitter and corrupt former deputy she recently forced out of the department.

Working with criminal investigator Matt Flynn, Bree discovers that she isn’t the only one who had a troubling history with Eugene. But someone doesn’t want Bree digging up the past. She becomes the target of a stranger’s sick and devious campaign calculated to destroy her reputation, career, family, and new relationship with Matt. To make matters worse, she’s the prime suspect in Eugene’s murder.

When her chief deputy goes missing while investigating the case, Bree refuses to back down. She won’t let him become the next victim. His life and her future depend on finding a killer nursing a vengeful rage.

Both interesting and frustrating at same time

I love the progression of personal and family life. Found myself frustrated by Sheriff Taggert's reaction to some situations that could have been resolved more easily with quicker simple actions. But that would have resolved some minor villains in press and maybe other agencies.

Part of those frustrations might be a tendency of mine as I get deeper into longer book series.

GREAT BOOK

Melinda Leigh did it again. I love this series. I also love how she brings in characters in from her other series. I love the Morgan Dane series and I'm glad to see her in this one as well.

Love This Series and This Book

Bree and Matt once again find themselves facing corruption and police politics, as well as yellow journalism, when Bree becomes the chief suspect in a gruesome double homicide. Have they got what it takes to survive professionally and personally against the onslaught. I enjoyed listening to these two and others struggle against the odds on all fronts, and bonus points for a brief time with Morgan and Lance. I highly recommend this book and series.

Another good story

It’s an enjoyable next book in the series where Bree has to balance work, family and love. She has to deal with a case with a previous deputy.

Woohoo! Sheriff Bree Taggert dances to her own drum!!

Another well written and well rounded story in the series. I gobbled it up in one day. This time, after she discovers the gruesome murder of a former deputy and his mother, Bree comes under scrutiny. The former deputy was forced to retire and there was no love lost between them. Doesn’t help that someone is trying to discredit her over social media. As efforts to oust Bree ramp up…Bree stands her ground, continues to do her job….and manages to catch some killers. Win-win.

Great Book

This book has been a great addition to this series. I’ve enjoyed the characters in the Bree Taggett series. It’s good to see her finally stop hiding her relationship with Matt. Lot’s of good action and drama, it’s a book not to be missed! Christina Traister is great with the narration.

Love this series

Love this Series! After I finished the Morgan Dane series I needed my fix. This series is almost as good. I really liked how the relationships finally expanded in this one.
