2025 EXPANDED EDITION ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR’S ORIGINAL VISION

In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a mercenary named Benaiah is searching for a new beginning.

He has joined a band of outcasts led by a warlord named David, who follows the mysterious Hebrew God. Their ranks are filled with bitter, ruthless men–some bound by loyalty to David, others lured by the spoils of conquest. To the desperate Israelites on the frontier they secretly protect, they are known as "mighty men."

Saul, king of the Israelites, spirals deeper into madness. As he marches north against the relentless Philistine empire, the Hebrew tribes have never been more disheartened–or more in need of deliverance.

Across thirteen harrowing days, from snowy mountain passes to blood-soaked battlefields, Benaiah and his fellow warriors must summon all the courage they have to reclaim their homeland and forge a future for their people.

Having read the book, Cliff is a masterful storyteller. Stefan is an amazing performer that makes the story come to life, and he sounds like an old and worn warrior telling past tales around the camp fire.

Sadly, the decision to change the pronunciation of Benaiah from American English to UK English caused a major distraction for me.

Great Story, Great Performance, one major flaw.

To take such a well known story that is so powerful to so many people and to turn it into this was fantastic. Giving context to the warriors of history... I would put this on par with Gates of Fire or The Things They Carried

I loved everything about this

A truly glorious return to one of my ALL-TIME favorite books. It is a story, adapted from the epic adventures of the biblical King David, that continues to be engaging, encouraging, and edifying. The original version of this book saw me through one of the most painful and traumatic experiences of my life. Romans 10: 17 says "faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word (rhema or spoken word) of God." The combination of Cliff's powerful words and Stefan resonant and melodious voice came together and restored what had been torn asunder by tragedy, trauma, and turmoil. And although, it is a work of fiction, the narrative feels plausible; like this is how it might have actually gone down. It also serves as a wonderful invitation to go to the Bible and get a deeper understanding of these biblical luminaries and their impact on God's purpose in the lives of both David and Israel. May we all be blessed with our own version of the Gibborim (2 Samuel 23: 8-39; 1 Chronicles 11:10-47)! I give it my highest recommendation and most enthusiastic support. Praise and Arrows!
