Story
Despite 10 years of secrecy, Lachlan has figured out that I’m his mate. And he’s not pleased that I’ve been hiding from him. Nor is he pleased that I escaped from his cell. It’s hardly my worst problem, though. There’s a killer after me. Multiple killers, if our source is to be believed. And they’re determined to find me. As much as I want to run a hundred miles from Lachlan to avoid the mate bond, it’s too dangerous. I need his help to find the people who are after me, and there’s no way he’d let me go, anyway.

Story
My idea of a party is hanging out with a mini box of wine and a raccoon. So yeah, I need a life. When I’m accused of murder, things get wild. One, I learn that I have magic. Two, there’s a secret magical city hidden right in London itself. And three, the only one who can help me is a vampire who’s sexy as sin and scary as the devil himself. He's called the Devil of Darkvale and he all but owns Guild City. My life is on the line if I don’t solve the murder, which means surviving in this new world of witch parties, magical guilds, and a vampire with a tortured past.

I can handle anyone who walks into my pub. Except him - the most powerful vampire who ever lived. The First. Dark, damaged, and hot as hell. He says I’m his one and only Vampire Bride, and that five years ago, I buried him alive. Obviously he’s crazy, because I don’t remember any of that. All I know is that if I want to escape his vengeance, I have to help him infiltrate a deadly secret society.

Story
As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill our leader, I’m labelled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt. When I can't take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don't like losing their punching bag. Torin, the leader’s son, drags me back before my first shift...a shift that will reveal my true mate. I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

Got a demon that needs killing? I’m your girl. On paper, I’m a blood sorceress. I can whip up the spells of your dreams. It’s a legal occupation - barely - but mostly a cover. My real job is protecting my city from the monsters of the dark realms. I’m the resident demon slayer, and occasionally those suckers escape. Then it’s up to me. After I challenged the Blood Council's four shifter heirs at a college party, the last thing I expected was to receive a full scholarship and an admittance letter from the exclusive Wolf Moon Academy. Despite never desiring to be an alpha, this was an opportunity of a lifetime...or so I thought. I soon learned that there was more behind my admission to the Academy than my education. I was there to be a lesson to the heirs - in particular, the sexiest and strongest one, Liam Hale.

Some things are better left forgotten. Dreams taunt me, filling me with questions even more so than the supernatural world I’d only just learned about. Making matters worse, a vampire attacked me while I was alone in the middle of the night. Death was imminent until a silver wolf saved me. A silver wolf who shifted into the most gorgeous man I'd ever seen, and no matter how hard I try to ignore it, there’s something pulling me toward him. Publisher's Summary
I’m supposed to be the Alpha's mate. Screw that.
Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing - the Alpha’s mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf.
Instead of waiting for him to figure out that I’m an abomination, I left on my 15th birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let him drive me from the town I love.
Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street - deadly, sexy, powerful - I just walk by. Keep my head down.
Until that night. Wrong place, wrong time, and suddenly I’m accused of murdering someone from my old pack. And he’s there. Blaming me. I’ve got one chance to prove my innocence and find the real killer, or I'm dead by shifter law.
The Alpha doesn't recognize me, but he senses I'm special. He won’t stop until he figures out the truth. But when he does, I’ll be in danger from more than just the real killer.

A lot of build up - NO payoff
I'm a huge paranormal romance fan. I love a good "will they or won't they" type of story. But Darkest Moon spends 99.5% of the story with the primary characters playing cat and mouse and then ends without any _real_ resolution to the game. The ending is not only abrupt, leaving you scratching your head. It comes across a bit misogynistic (and that's coming from a straight guy).
Hearing Laurel Schroeder do the voices and accents was one of the few redeeming qualities of the book. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Linsey Hall's work. But, this story just doesn't seem well thought out and played a bit like a skipping record when both Eve and Lachlan each keep repeating the same things to themselves over and over and over and over.
I'm tapped out on the series, I shouldn't need to read the second book just to see if I can get a satisfying conclusion to the first book.

Overall it was a good book. The story was interesting. The narrator was good once I was able to understand the strong accent. I would have liked a deeper voice for the male character. if I didn't catch the POV at the beginning of the chapter, I didn't know who was speaking.

I love Darkest Moon
This book isn't very long and I binged it quickly but I didn't want it to end. Eve is so interesting and mysterious. It took me a minute to realize the characters from the Hades and Persephone series were the same ones showing up in this book. I love it! I love the racoon! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!
I love Laurel Schroeder's Scottish accent, she did a good job. I read this before getting the audio version and she adds another level of fun that wasn't there when I was just reading the book.

Flat story and performance
This is essentially one book broken into five parts for the sake of price. The first book was weak. I may finish them if they come out with a boxed set for one credit but $70 or 5 credits for the set is excessive. I would really have to know that the rest of the story would be worth it and I'm not confident about that yet. The narrator attempted the accents but had a hard time distinguishing them from one another and lacks the lyrical tone that makes it come across fluidly.

Be prepared for 5 credits
I have hundreds of titles in my audio library and this is my first review. I enjoyed the story overall, but you should be warned. There are 5 books in this series. And each book didn't end in a cliffhanger, it simply stopped, and you had to continue the next book. The 5 books should be one lumped group for a credit. The story didn't end until book 5. And it ended somewhat abruptly. Honestly this should have been one 20-hour book since there wasn't a different plot/theme for each book. Book one=what am I, why am I different? Book 5= this is what you are and why you're different. Just a heads up.

Loved this book
I loved the plot and execution of this book. The story is captivating.
My only neutral comment is the accent the narrator used. I cant decide if it's Scottish, Irish or Romanian. If you are Scottish, like me, you will know what I mean. I think if you weren't, you wouldn't notice. However, even though the accent is off and a little fluid, it doesn't detract from the book and is easily zoned out.
Downloaded book 2 already.

Great but cliffy
Great book. Haven't listened nor read the authors' previous books in the same world but I am already curious to do so. Liked the story and characters but the cliffhanger in the end felt like I only read half a book. If this is how the rest of the series is going to be then I really hope it is worth it.

ghastly narration
the story has some interesting concepts but the author is clearly not from the UK and hasn't run the script past someone from the UK/Scottland.
The narrator has a pleasant voice but her faux Scottish accent for both main characters throughout the audiobook is abysmal. It would be great if American narrators could learn the difference between Scottish and Indian accents... It would be even better if they'd used a Scottish narrator. Everything spoken in an accent lacks emotional intonation. The male and female characters sound the same.
