Publisher's summary

I’m supposed to be the Alpha's mate. Screw that.

Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing - the Alpha’s mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf.

Instead of waiting for him to figure out that I’m an abomination, I left on my 15th birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let him drive me from the town I love.

Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street - deadly, sexy, powerful - I just walk by. Keep my head down.

Until that night. Wrong place, wrong time, and suddenly I’m accused of murdering someone from my old pack. And he’s there. Blaming me. I’ve got one chance to prove my innocence and find the real killer, or I'm dead by shifter law.

The Alpha doesn't recognize me, but he senses I'm special. He won’t stop until he figures out the truth. But when he does, I’ll be in danger from more than just the real killer.

A lot of build up - NO payoff

I'm a huge paranormal romance fan. I love a good "will they or won't they" type of story. But Darkest Moon spends 99.5% of the story with the primary characters playing cat and mouse and then ends without any _real_ resolution to the game. The ending is not only abrupt, leaving you scratching your head. It comes across a bit misogynistic (and that's coming from a straight guy).

Hearing Laurel Schroeder do the voices and accents was one of the few redeeming qualities of the book. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Linsey Hall's work. But, this story just doesn't seem well thought out and played a bit like a skipping record when both Eve and Lachlan each keep repeating the same things to themselves over and over and over and over.

I'm tapped out on the series, I shouldn't need to read the second book just to see if I can get a satisfying conclusion to the first book.

Be prepared for 5 credits

I have hundreds of titles in my audio library and this is my first review. I enjoyed the story overall, but you should be warned. There are 5 books in this series. And each book didn't end in a cliffhanger, it simply stopped, and you had to continue the next book. The 5 books should be one lumped group for a credit. The story didn't end until book 5. And it ended somewhat abruptly. Honestly this should have been one 20-hour book since there wasn't a different plot/theme for each book. Book one=what am I, why am I different? Book 5= this is what you are and why you're different. Just a heads up.

New Book, New Series, New Author

Overall it was a good book. The story was interesting. The narrator was good once I was able to understand the strong accent. I would have liked a deeper voice for the male character. if I didn't catch the POV at the beginning of the chapter, I didn't know who was speaking.

this book was so boring

I kept waiting chapter after chapter for this story to go somewhere it was so boring and that fake accent it was just terrible. it was almost as if Bill Shatner were reading this book with the dramatic pauses as well.

I love Darkest Moon

This book isn't very long and I binged it quickly but I didn't want it to end. Eve is so interesting and mysterious. It took me a minute to realize the characters from the Hades and Persephone series were the same ones showing up in this book. I love it! I love the racoon! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!
I love Laurel Schroeder's Scottish accent, she did a good job. I read this before getting the audio version and she adds another level of fun that wasn't there when I was just reading the book.

Flat story and performance

This is essentially one book broken into five parts for the sake of price. The first book was weak. I may finish them if they come out with a boxed set for one credit but $70 or 5 credits for the set is excessive. I would really have to know that the rest of the story would be worth it and I'm not confident about that yet. The narrator attempted the accents but had a hard time distinguishing them from one another and lacks the lyrical tone that makes it come across fluidly.

Good Book One

Hall has done well with this series start. Characters are ones I would like to meet. Storyline moves quick and holds attention. Very enjoyable.

Solid book

All in all I did enjoy this quick listen. Solid characters and good plot. Will likely listen to the next book.
