Publisher's summary

Danger once again laps at the shores of Barkley Sound, the Graveyard of the Pacific.…

It may be summer, but schoolteacher Anna Silver’s trip to the coastal town of Bamfield is anything but a vacation. She’s on the run, desperate to stay one step ahead of her father’s murderer and determined to track down the one man she’s been told to trust: her father’s old cell mate, Brent Carver. But when she finds him, she discovers not a kind, elderly artist but a dangerously hot alpha male with blood on his hands.

Loyal to the core, Brent would never turn away his friend’s daughter when she comes seeking help. He can’t deny Anna his protection…just as he can’t deny the instantaneous attraction he struggles to keep in check. But as their passion blazes out of control, a sadistic killer is on the hunt to stop Anna from uncovering his dark secrets.

Exciting, thrilling, suspense

What did you love best about Dark Waters?

Suspense, excitement, growing and learning of the characters, putting faith and believing in ones self.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Waters?

When she found out her father was one of the good guys, it put faith and love back into her family and brought them back together

Which character – as performed by Emily Beresford – was your favorite?

Brent, I loved the voice she gave him, the passion she put into it. Emily made him seem real, his pain, sorrow and he coming to realize he did what he had to do to protect those he loved. His forgiveness of his self.

Any additional comments?

This was a book that my husband and I could listen to together to give us some us time that we did enjoy very much. Toni gives so much to her readers as she tells a compelling compassionate story of lose, love, pain, sorrow, forgiveness, starting over and learning to live again while she keeps you on the edge of your seat with her suspense, the chase.

Anna has been through so much and still has confidence not only in herself but those around her. Most would have fallen and let the world take over. Anna is a very strong character who grows through out the book to become a women she can be proud of. She refuses to become a victim but take the bull by the horn as she is in a race for not only her life but others she holds dear as she tries to find the clues to who killed her father before they find and kill her.

Brent is pulled into the fast pace suspense when his friend sends his daughter to him for safe keeping as he falls to his death. He works through the clues as he races to keep his best friends daughter alive and prove her father is innocent. Brent is a strong character who would do anything for those he loves as he has done in the past. He is hiding from the world but all that is about to change with one women who rocks his world in more ways than one.

Both Anna and Brent have a very painful past they want to forget but can never forgive themselves or others. They learn to grow into wonderful characters and come to realize that sometimes you have to do what you have to do but this does not make you a bad person. You need to grab life and live it like there is no tomorrow as these who wonderful characters find out.

Toni is one of my favorite authors who grabs you from the first page with thrills and suspense you do not want to put her books down. The things I love about this story is the characters they must forgive themselves, learn to become the people the need to be as well as letting others in their life. We have no control of those around us we can only do as we feel is best and hope for the best. Mistakes might be made but that does not make us bad, we pay the price and learn but in most cases we would do it all the same again because of those we love as Brent found out. I loved watching these character develop as only Toni can do.

Toni always has me so into her writing as her narrators gives me chills with her telling of the story. Emily Beresford is an outstanding narrator who has a smooth voice with such passion. She brings so much to her audio's that you can feel the pain of each character.

Between the two you never know what is coming next and are always surprised at what Toni has in store for you. She gives you a pretty clean read with lots of steamy passion, two characters have a strong pull and attraction which is written in a way that compliments the story. You feel you are part of it as the author gives her characters meaning and makes two worlds right again. I have been hook on Toni as an author since the first audio of hers I listened to. She knows how to keep you on the edge as she pulls you in and keeps you hanging. I know Toni will always give me an outstanding read of suspense, and excitement that will get my heart pumping with thrills as she takes me on a wild ride of who done it and why.

Narration tough to listen to..good story

The story was good, though predictable. However, the narrators voice was extremely tough to listen to. Each time she portrayed Brent's voice, I wanted to stop listening.

Just ok.

This book was Just ok because it wasn't what I usually like. First let me say that Davis Silver got a raw deal in this book and if I were him i'd be haunting the CRAP out of a few people.

I'm not used to the Hero in romance books having their hands tied and not able to totally just wreck shit and level the world for his woman. I'm not saying that Brent was a wuss but he was cautious while still trying to do stuff the legal way.

Anna was a HUGE pain in my ass. Yeah I get she was traumatized and a victim of her past but hell woman!! She, and her mom were cut from the same cloth. They didn't care about anyone else and only had tunnel vision for what was going on in their own world. At one point I was cheering the bad guys on hoping he'd shoot one or both of them. For me Anna was just unlikable. SHe was very hot and cold and one minute she's all no no no don't touch me then the next she's like dude make me see stars. No Bueno.

story - 2
narrator 2.5 - I didn't like the narrator for this story. Her male voices were totally lacking in effort.

thumbs up!

Really enjoyed this book. I definitely want to read more by this author. The narrator did a good job too of distinguishing between characters

A fun romp

This is not great literature, but a good beach-type read. I actually prefer Toni Anderson’s Cold Justice series - characters in that series are more appealing.

Narrator was pretty good. Excellent speaking voice, but not consistently good with the male voices. The male voices got a little squeaky in the tense/urgent situations. And the tone she used for the scary bad guy made him sound like a Get Smart or Austin Powers villain. It was so overdone it took me out of the story- which is a disappointment.

Can’t read them fast enough

I recently found this author and I can’t read or listen to her books fast enough. This one has several miscarriages of justice, twists you don’t see coming, and if not redemption, dealing with the past.

Narration Was Just Ok

I had mixed feelings about this book. Some of the scenes were suspenseful and some had me wondering about the purpose of including them. The book started out and immediately grabbed my attention. Then, at some point, it fell off and slowed down.

I liked Brent from the first book. Although he was bitter, angry, and a loner, I could understand why. Also, I could see slight attempts on his part to change his attitude.

What I didn't understand is why Brent was still on parole. It sounded like he would be for a lifetime. Maybe that is a Canada thing. I didn't understand why with all of his money and fame, he didn't get an attorney to fight his charges. He got a raw deal. I was even more confused after it was all said and done, why he didn't get Harvey to help him. Or why Anna and her mother didn't get Harvey to help Brent?

How was it after everything they went through (making it obvious that neither the police in Brent's case or Davis' case did a thorough job) that Brent was HAPPY going from seeing his PO once a week to every two weeks? That was ridiculous imho!

I didn't like Anna. There was no part of the book where I liked Anna. I did feel for her past situation, but I didn't find anything likeable about her character. Not only was she constantly whining, she was judgemental a nd did not listen to advice. She ran to Brent for help, and it seemed like every time he told her something in an effort to try and keep her safe, she did the exact opposite and ran headlong into danger.

It seemed to me like Brent was so enamored of Anna that she ran right over what he was trying to do to help her. I thought it was also interesting that she NEVER believed her father.

I listened to the audiobook. It was ok. I had to keep switching between the book and the audiobook.

This book can be read as a stand-alone. It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I would recommend you read it and judge for yourself. I would give it 3.5 stars.

2.5 stars

The real issue with the story is Anna. I don't like her, she is judgemental and my heart bled for Davis. Anna and her mother so easily and continually thought he was a liar and a thief despite him always stating he wasn't. And only believed it when the bad guys tell them (WTF)
Brent was ok.
Plot holes still evident in the story. And evil people so clearly spelled out you knew it was ok the died.
I read a later book of same author and I liked the characters better (Patrick & Audrey) so I forgave the plot holes.
