Publisher's Summary
Beneath the water the body sank rapidly. She would lie still and undisturbed for many years, but above her on dry land, the nightmare was just beginning.
When Detective Erika Foster receives a tip-off that key evidence for a major narcotics case was stashed in a disused quarry on the outskirts of London, she orders for it to be searched. From the thick sludge the drugs are recovered, but so is the skeleton of a young child. The remains are quickly identified as seven-year-old Jessica Collins. The missing girl who made headline news 26 years ago.
As Erika tries to piece together new evidence with the old, she must dig deeper and find out more about the fractured Collins family and the original detective, Amanda Baker - a woman plagued by her failure to find Jessica. Erika soon realizes this is going to be one of the most complex and demanding cases she has ever taken on.
Is the suspect someone close to home? Someone is keeping secrets. Someone who doesn't want this case solved. And they'll do anything to stop Erika from finding the truth.

Erika Foster, England's Answer To Dept Q
Harry Hole, Department Q, arguably the best police procedurals on Audible, and now Erika Foster. All feature 3 brilliant, but severely flawed detectives working uunder politically charged pressure. All 3 are are centered around anti-social heroes with an indescribable charisma.
Dark Water centers on Erika Foster's team taking on a 23 year old cold case; the murder of a 7 year old girl. They are under the spotlight of both the media and a new regime in the police department. And they are infiltrated by traitors within their ranks.
This is another gripping, fast paced thriller easily worth your time.

Strong Entry in a Consistent Series
This book started off a little jarring. It took a little while to realize some time had passed from the previous book and Erika was no longer at the same division with the same partners. Luckily many of the secondary characters from the first two books were eventually brought back in to participate in this book as well. That is good news because I think one of the strengths of the series is the multitude of flawed and/or interesting secondary characters. Several new characters were also introduced that I hope play a recurring role. I would like to know more about her sister and the new female chief.
The mystery was engaging as well. I admit I had only figured out who two/thirds of the bad guys were, so a good portion of the ending was surprising to me.
The narrator is not bad. She just adds nothing to the experience. Which is in some ways a good thing because she isn't overly theatrical. At the same time, I would never decide to listen to an audiobook just because she was the narrator, and there are some narrators that I will read anything they narrate.
Overall a good edition to the series and I will read the next installment.

Superb detective novel in the Erika Foster series!
I've previously written 5 star reviews for The Girl in the Ice and The Night Stalker which are the first two novels in the Detective Erica Foster series. With Dark Water British author Robert Bryndza scores again with another wonderful mystery. English actor Jan Cramer delivers yet another 5 star narration performance.
Last Breath, the 4th novel in the Erica Foster series, was recently released and is available at Audible.

Excellent Storyline That Kept Me Guessing Until the Very End
I love all Robert Bryndza's Erika Foster books. He does an excellent job weaving a tale that captivates me until I finish the entire novel—usually in one sitting. This novel is no different. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series. I also look forward to more novels in this series. I would love to see Erika get the praise and love she so desperately needs and deserves. (I would also like to see a couple of her nemeses get what they deserve as well....lol)

Would you try another book written by Robert Bryndza or narrated by Jan Cramer?
I have listened to all three Erika Foster series , purely for the

It was like she had no interest in the books and no interest in captivating the audience.

Stunning
I have read all three thrillers by Robert Brindza, plus the excellent Miss wrong and Mr. Right, and all his books are original, well thought out and well written. They are very exciting too. Dark Water had me guessing right up the the last 45 minutes of the book. No one could guess what really happened to Jessica Collins. The story line is stunningly original and convoluted, however, whether it is believable is another matter. It is a story and reality is often suspended with a book like this. The unfolding of the case leaves one to wonder if people would really do something like this. However I thoroughly enjoyed this book, at least DCI Erika Foster didn't come to any harm in this book. I am eagerly looking forward to Robert Brindza's next book. If you are not sure whether to buy this book then I urge you to give it a try, it's good. Suspense all the way. One thing though, you should read the first and second Erika Foster books first.

Omg I didn't expect the twist in the end how sad :(
It's an engrossing, gritty story that keeps me guessing from beginning to end. Detective Erika Foster is tough as nuts and she is determined and passionate like a dog with a bone she won't let up. This is such a tragic story that it made me cry and mad at the same time. Jan Cramer is brilliant as Erika and not so bad as the rest of the characters either but she played Toby and I thought she sound like a woman, no distinction much. Anyway this book is brilliant kudos Robert Bryndza for another thrilling story.

Loved it
DCI Erika Foster is a force to be reckoned with but still human and vulnerable.
Great read.

Lots of twists and turns
Just when i thought i knew who the murderer was another twist in the story occurred and i had to rethink the ending.
Unfortunately Jan Cramer's performance was disappointing, in each novel i listen too that she narrates the same few voices appear...not much depth in her available to distinguish between character in this story and others i have listened too by her.

Good storyline.
Only 4 stars as I managed to work out the twist. Pity I was forewarned by the critics review.
