Publisher's Summary

Everything to lose.

Tyler’s worked hard to kick the dust of the Chicago suburbs off his heels and move on with his life as Hollywood’s newest up-and-comer, burying his demons and hiding his scars from the world. Just as everything seems to be going his way, a scandal from his past threatens everything he’s worked for. Now, he’s stuck back home, where his family of lawyers can maybe help sink the scandal and find out who’s behind it.

Afraid to love.

Josh doesn’t know what to think when his ex’s little brother falls into his arms, other than that Tyler is trouble with a capital T. But when Tyler’s publicist suggests that an adoring fake boyfriend might be just the ticket to saving Tyler’s acting career, Josh doesn’t mind playing along. It’s not like he has anything else going on, and faking a relationship with someone you’ve known your entire life can’t possibly be that difficult.

A second chance for two damaged hearts.

Now, they’re stuck together for the foreseeable future, and neither can deny their mounting attraction. Why should they? They’re supposed to be in love, at least out in public. But in private, when no one is watching, Tyler and Josh grow closer in a way that has nothing to do with their agreed upon arrangement. What do they do when make-believe becomes real, and how can two men with such different lives have a shared future?

Damage Control is a steamy, stand-alone gay romance with no cliffhanger and an HEA.

Major triggers

I really enjoyed this book. The sexy times were very hot. The relationship's evolution was very satisfying. There are some major trigger warnings so be sure to check that out first. Narration by Michael Ferraiuolo was perfect as usual.

A wonderful, compelling story

Two broken men, who manage to get their jagged edges fit together... *happy sigh*

Okay, this story goes off with a fake relationship's trope but one with a very dark side, particularly when it comes to Tyler's past. Both main characters are complex and interesting, and I really liked the rest of the cast; the story is heart-breaking and still manages to be funny and filled with hope, the writing is VERY good, and really, I loved it.

And when we add Michael Ferraiuolo's narration to all of that... well... it's simply wonderful. I was fascinated by how nuanced was his narration; how all the emotional turmoil come through his tone, without being overplayed. I think I've found a new favourite :D

Loved this book!

This nearly-19-hour audio book had me hooked from start to finish. The storyline is engaging. There is enough drama to keep things interesting and enough personal trials and tribulations to keep things real.

As such, the struggles with mental health detailed are accurately and sensitively portrayed. That doesn’t mean it isn’t sometimes hard to listen to, but certainly makes you bond with the characters even more.

The characters are well developed and brought to life by the skilled voice talent of Michael Ferraiuolo. Each character had a super distinct tone so you never had to wonder who was speaking. Tyler’s voice, in particular, is perfect for his written persona.

Lynn Van Dorn crafted a book with great chapter titles, setting the scenes with wit. This worked exceptionally well for audio as it made things even easier to follow.

Without giving anything away, an incident near the end of the book is spectacularly crafted and had my heart rate increasing with compassionate dread. Ms. Van Dorn made up for it with a satisfying ending that wrapped up nearly all the loose ends.

This is the 1st book in the North Shore stories and was able to be enjoyed without reading the other two, but you can be bet I want to pick them up now!

Such an incredible book!

Damage Control on its own is fantastic, but Michael Ferraiuolo brings it to the next level. The emotion, the heartache, the joy, the laughter... all of it was perfect. Tyler and Josh couldn't have been narrated better, and all the side characters are distinct and fantastic.

This has been one of my favorite audiobooks to date, and I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series!

I'm kind of torn, honestly

On the one hand, there is a lot of emotion in this book. A lot of sass and some very witty passages. I enjoyed those parts, despite the abundance of pretty dark material in Tyler's recollections.

On the other hand, there is a lot of seeming rambling. Their inner thoughts sometimes seem to just meander, which--while realistic--takes a lot away from the building tension. Additionally, the book takes place over a fairly short period of time, so I find it difficult making that fit in my mind.

MMy Thoughts and Review:

I typically run from edgy, angsty, dramatic tales. This is simply due to the fact that I am old, have lived my own drama and don't want to read about the same types of drama in my books...or movies...or TV series. I want the rest of my days filled with sMMexy men loving other sMMexy men, unicorns, rainbows, butterflies, and other fluffy things. 💖🌈💖

Something about Damage Control drew me in, however. I knew I could trust Van Dorn to take me on a crazy wild journey, but I was still apprehensive because of the trigger warnings hitting too close to home and again, I have lived my own drama.

What sets this book apart and above most in its genre is the character authenticity and transparency. Our MC, Tyler for example is seen by his family as spoiled, crass, attention seeking at the best of times, and attention seeking to the detriment of his health at the worst. However, these same family members protect, work for and with Tyler always striving to show they care. These characteristics are things many of us see in our own family dynamics. We might not like each other, and sometimes the dislike may even mimic hate. But, at our base level, there is always a piece no matter how small that still loves our family.

Underneath all the family push and pull are secrets. Secrets that are years in the making and within the Chadwick family these secrets effect everyone to some degree, but no one is more effected by all these secrets than Tyler.

After a chance meeting, turned into an almost drowning, Tyler and his long time crush who FYI used to secretly date his brother, Josh gets roped into pretending to be Tyler's doting boyfriend. Now, do not think for a second this is a typical "fake boyfriend" trope. Do that, and you will be sorely disappointed. It is just one of the MANY themes that are present in this spectacular story.

Now that Tyler has his fake BF, Josh to help combat the sex tape scandal (forgot to mention that, sorry) everything should be hunky dory. Alas, this is an epic family drama not some pretentious novella, so there is more...so much more. There are angry and homophobic parents who rage, then shame, then guilt, then rage some more. There are siblings who believe they know best and meddle any chance they get. Best friends who call or text at three a.m. just to make sure you are okay and haven't put anyone in a strangle hold, or jumped off the dock with rocks in your pockets.

If that weren't enough, there's paparazzi everywhere snapping photos, yelling absurd questions just to get a rise, and tabloids writing stories so far from the truth it sounds more appealing to believe it than what's actually happening. Nasty internet memes made from the sex tape, more homophobic slurs spread across the world wide web and the side of Tyler's house. Prank calls at two a.m. and a neurotic fake boyfriend who has cleaning frenzies when he is stressed. And a crazy ex who may still be stalking Tyler and upping the ante to things like slashed tires, and screaming at Josh that, "Tyler belongs to him!" Cray-cray... Right?!?!😂

Amidst all the crazy two broken and battered souls mesh together and find peace and comfort in each other. Josh and Tyler have the perfect blend of calm and frantic, messy and spotless that somehow brings balance to their chaotic world. Even when doubts rise, they push through, they don't run or show cowardice regarding who they are to each other in their moments together. They stick together and friendship turns to something more. Much more.

If you haven't been able to tell let me say plainly, I absolutely loved this audiobook! In my opinion an audio book wins or loses its audience solely based on the narration. If a narrator lacks spirit, and inflection it will show.

Michael Ferraiuolo was superb in his role as narrator. Each character had a voice unique to their personality (I loved Josh's mom's accent!). Even each thought was in the character's voice and not the narrator's actual voice. Bravo, Sir! Bravo! 👏

Even though I am one of those who needs to be mindful of triggers. (I am not ashamed to say, I am a survivor!) This book spoke to me on so many levels. So, be mindful of the triggers, and if you feel brave this is a journey you won't regret! 💖👬💖

Possible triggers: mentions underage rape, torture, branding (conversion therapy); suicide attempt; cutting

I Loved it so Much

Loved this book, I listened to the entire 18 hours in 3 days and was sad when the story ended, I am so attached to the characters. I loved both Josh and Tyler they are beautiful and damaged and make a great couple. The ups and downs, the struggles and obstacles they went through kept me on the edge of my seat. Story was so engaging and captivating that I didn't notice how long it was, I just wanted it to never end. Narrator was perfect, his voice for every character appearing in the book is spot on, he performed this story and made this audiobook even better with his amazing narration. I highly recommend this audiobook for romance lovers who can handle the angst and mention of past abuse. Looking forward to more books by this author/narrator team.

A journey of healing

Tyler is hiding. Hiding behind his bubbly, sassy persona is a damaged soul who is need of so much care, love and healing.
When he needs to regroup and do some damage control to his image, Josh steps up.
But, Josh was someone who he connects with him in so many different levels and not just the fake image that they are supposed to be portraying.
This is an intense plot, heed the trigger warnings.
The story is thoroughly entrancing with complex characters, witty dialogue, passionate emotions, deceit, secrets and betrayals.

The narration is phenomenal. Michael's vocalization range for the different characters was amazing and he keeps you engaged for all 18+ hours of this book.

A Second Chance at Love and Life

This is a beautifully written true to life story about Tyler and Josh. It is long and deals with some serious mental health issues so have tissues handy. After years apart Josh saves Tyler's life after he falls into the lake. And when Tyler needs good press Josh agrees to be his fake boyfriend, even though Tyler had a crush on Josh when he was a teenager. This srory has lots of family drama. I love how Tyler and Josh never gave up on each other, even when things got really hard. Tyler is such a strong person to have survived all the crap life had given him. In the end I think Tyler and Josh saved each other.
I recommend this book and look forward to more.
Narrator Michael Ferraiuolo does an absolutely amazing job.

A Book Absolutely Worth Reading!

A compelling book the writing was amazing. The plot was entertaining, thought-provoking and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were well developed and thought out. Josh and Tyler are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, harm of various types, friends, a sex video, a nasty past, family, social media, a fake boyfriend, a lake house, a wedding, emotions all over the place, snarky banter and so much more in this book. This book has some serious issues that are in it so read the authors triggers warning. I think that they are dealt with differently and honestly but not with you going into therapy with them. The chapters have great titles such as chapter 5 Tyler Is Cranky and Needs a Nap. At the beginning of each chapter is a description with the date time and where they are which is great because helps to know what’s going on because of how the book is written. The text messages are great throughout the book. I loved this book.

I’m picky and won’t have picky this voice for narration (I’m picky). Having said that his voice worked with this book. The narration was done well and made it enjoyable. There was great expression and flow for the story. It wasn’t monotone and the voices were different. I had previously read the eBook but having listened to the audiobook I definitely prefer the audiobook thanks to the narration.

Here is a quote from the book, “You should eat more cookies. Or at least drink more juice,” chirped Josh. Oh dear God. Death might have been preferable. It certainly would have been more peaceful. “Drinking orange juice with Oreos is inhumane. I’m pretty sure it’s in violation of the Geneva Convention.”. There is more but you will need to read/listen to this book which I can highly recommend. This book shows that everyone has problems and you can still find happiness. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Beyond incredible!

I have been broke and weaved back together with Josh and Tyler in my heart. Healing, powerful, devastation and so unapologetically real, you will break, you will hurt but you will grow and heal too, slowly, organically and powerfully. I'm lost for more words to describe this uniquely powerful, cathartic, truthful story. Darkness can engulf a soul but all you need is a tiny light to follow your way out. Josh was Tyler's tiny light. They made progress towards healing together, and while life is never perfect it's more enjoyable with someone who believes in you. Thank you, Lynn, for such an incredible story, I'm floored!

OMFG as I read/listened through this, I hated Ryan! He's such a tool! He seemed so vindictive, cruel, a bully and how can someone be so clueless to how they treat others and their feelings! How can someone be so evil! Okay, rant over! Thankfully Lynn managed to turn my mind around in the last chapter or so. I'm still on the fence but I am so thankful Ryan finally realized how he treated Josh and apologized - long over due. I'd be interested to see Ryan grow and realize his mistakes in his own story...

Thanks for reading!

Incredible

First things first this is an epic audiobook, Michael Ferraiuolo does a wonderful job with the narration. There are a lot of characters to contend with and he gave them all a unique voice, I was never confused about who was talking.

This story has everything, scandal, fake relationship, ex’s brother, best friend’s brother, family drama and a whole lot of hotness. There’s also a lot of serious issues dealt with, and although this book can be light hearted at times these issues are definitely more serious and the tone changed to reflect that. Michael’s narration was absolutely spot on going back and forth, especially for Tyler.

Josh and Tyler was fabulous as a couple, I loved how they found each other when they weren’t even looking and found in each other everything they ever wanted.

There’s definitely a lot going on in this story but dive in you won’t be disappointed.

Danaged hearts...

I picked this book up first because I am a fan of Mr Ferraiuolo and then the description called to me. Tyler and Josh’s lives couldn’t be more different and their age difference puts them a at length but they are of such similar hearts it hurts. Their story made me want to hug both characters and I laughed and snickered at their conversations not only between them both but with their friends. It’s a deep feel book, with triggers for some (so beware), awful secrets, loud mouths but it’s also light hearted and with an awesome hea. I particularly want to know Ryan’s story next.

excellent start to a new series

Really interesting book. Lots of angsty back story for both of the MCs. Although there's also lots of snark and I chortled out loud several times, I also nearly out the book in the freezer, Joey from friends style, at a couple of points. I knew something heartbreaking was coming and didn't want to read it, but knew I needed to. Thankfully it's also beautifully romantic same the HEA is hugely satisfying.

Emotional, sweet love story

The epic love story of Tyler & Josh, with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. A great plot, with dramatic events, and emotional turmoil. Tyler's strength in dealing with a shit-ton of trauma is inspiring, and it takes someone with a heart as big as Josh's to handle his boisterous personality.

brilliant!

A story to immerse yourself in. Lynn Van Dorn takes her time to weave this wonderful tale building the characters and story at a digestible pace. Such a rarity to get such a deeply satisfying read and feel you didn't get left behind in the telling. The audio by Michael Ferraiuolo is brilliant and adds a sweet dimension to the telling.
