Publisher's summary

I fear I've made a mistake.

I left a pampered life and a loveless relationship to live on an icy primeval world, all for the promise of a soulmate and children. But three years have passed, and my hopes and dreams have become dashed. I haven't resonated. Without resonance, there will be no children for me, and no loving mate.

So I keep waiting, and waiting . . .

But then I come up with a brilliant plan to get me everything I want. And my plan needs a volunteer, one that would be happy to be my mate in all ways. Luckily, I know just who to approach . . .

Contains mature themes.

So much better than the last book

I almost skipped this book because the last book (Sam's Secret) was absolutely terrible, however this book went on sale and I decided to go for it - I was not disappointed and Ruby Dixon brand redeemed itself.

Daisy's story is really good and brings back some of the impact of being abducted and trying to adapt to survive and then the want/need to thrive. Daisy was young when she was taken so I can understand her sense of self worth being twisted. I think Shadow Cat Clan also has some growth as a group too which was a nice touch. Overall the romance was sweet, the spice is pretty high, and of course there is an over the top bit of drama but that is part of this story's charm - it fit and wasn't out of place.

For those that rightfully skipped the last book, this one does confirm the jump in years - it has been 4 to 5 years since Steph's Outcast book that has the Icehome village disruption so needless to say, everything is back to normal but with more off page babies being born to various couples. You don't need to (I would never encourage anyone to) read Sam's book to get caught up because it is all much better laid out here in Daisy's story.

Well, finally Daisy!

I understood her frustration. And I'm just now understanding her obsession with her looks . . . On a primitive planet. Gentle, manipulative abuse is still abuse. And she was definitely manipulated and abused to the point that it followed her even when it no longer mattered. Glad she started working on that.

Rudy does it again

Ice Home continues with this interesting tale. Resonates will come of course but after some new twists.

Daisy and O’jek.

Both main characters have issues, and I may not be the one that Ruby is trying to reach with these characters to resonance with. Daisy was my least liked character, and the first part of the book was a bit much with all of her crying, but it gets better. So far, I haven’t disliked any books from this series, even Ruby’s less that great books are still wonderful. Ojek has some issues later in the book where you want to slap him too, but both characters have issues that can be understood from their backgrounds. I recommend listening in order starting with the Ice Planet Barbarian series. Narrators are great, I do tend to use speed 1.25x, just because I have so many books to read, and at that speed it doesn’t ruin the narration.

Daisy getting determined to overcome her issues.

I like that Daisy showed emphatically that she could do what she put her mind to. I admire women who are strong yet still sensitive and feminine regardless of what life has thrown at them. I hope to do so again, myself so Daisy is inspirational to me in that way. Thanks Ruby!

Ms. Dixon Has Done it again!

This was yet another sweet tale. I loved the way O’ Jek loves Daisy. Can’t wait for Flor’s tale next.

Double the insecurity, double the woe

Based upon the previous books, I was somewhat prepared for the storyline of Daisy, who grew up as a slave whose only worth was being a trophy. I knew it would be a journey before she figured out that looking good and keeping clean were now at the bottom of the priority list. What I wasn’t prepared for was O’Jek’s insecurities about being the last one picked. It didn’t help that the story had Daisy “settling” for O’Jek outside of resonance.

At the same time, Daisy’s gung-ho attitude, and O’Jek’s unwavering acceptance of her despite her scars made this a sweet listen. I would have liked more humor, but as a sale purchase, this was a decent listen, especially this far into the series.
