Very helpful!

For me, this audiobook was exactly what I needed! It made it easier for me to understand my emotions than I had previously.
I got this feeling from listening to it that things could really get better, even though everything seemed like a chaotic mess.
Those worksheets were really helpful to me, especially when I was stuck. The book made those tricky ideas feel way more manageable. It's crazy how much I've grown in understanding my own emotions and how to deal with people without making a mess. If you're feeling sick of being tied to your emotion or your feelings, give it a listen. Trust me, it's worth it. Its a great reminder that change is possible, even when life throws some seriously tough stuff your way.

Anxiety Eliminated

Starting with the knowledge that your emotions are normal, the author invites you to change the behavior you're not happy with. Through DBT, you discover how these techniques can overcome anxiety, anger, loneliness and help control emotions. The bonus chapter on dealing with Social media was enlightening, and with the included workbook, learning the techniques was easy. I'm grateful for finding this audiobook and look forward to using the techniques more and more.

Great for teens who are struggling

I am a mom of a teenage girl who struggles with her emotions every single day. I listened to the book first before giving it to her, and I have to say I was very impressed with how relatable the book is for teens. The book doesn't talk down to them or anything. Instead, it comes from a place of empathy and understanding. One of the chapters that resonated with me for my daughter, was regarding loneliness. We moved out to the country, so it's been harder for her to just hang out with friends as most live 15-20 minutes away, and none drive. I was struck by the statistics about the prevalence of emotional struggles among teens and realized my daughter is not alone.

If your teen is struggling with emotional issues, I recommend you get this book for them. They can use a lot of practical information to help themselves and realize they are not alone.

This Stuff Works!

So when my mom got this book for me to listen to, I figured it was gonna be another of those books where grownups tell teens everything they’re doing wrong or full of easy fixes that don’t even work.I mean dialectical behavior therapy? Seriously, what teen wants to do therapy? But dude! This book had me hooked right in the intro by explaining how DBT teaches that we are not the cause of all our problems but that we are responsible for how we react to our problems. I loved the way this was presented, in an encouraging way, as if the author really understood me and some of my deepest struggles. He didn’t want to tell me what was wrong with me or what I needed to do better, but realized that lots of what I’m dealing with is really not my fault. But I do need to learn how to deal with it in healthy ways and follow through.

Last year on a class trip out of state, I had my first ever anxiety attack. It was really scary, and I felt like something was wrong with me. When I got home my parents did a great job talking about it with me and helping me feel better, but we didn’t really know enough to make a plan for if it happened again. The chapter from this book on anxiety started out with the story of Eddie and his experience with anxiety. His attacks actually sounded just like mine in lots of ways and that really helped me know that I’m not the only one and not alone in this. Then the chapter explained what anxiety is and what triggers cause it. Then it taught a bunch of practical techniques so I don’t need to stress about triggers or anxiety ahead of time. I already made a battle plan for how to deal with, and feel confident enough that I signed up for another trip out of state.

Thanks to this great book, I finally have tools for dealing with stress and loneliness too, and other regular everyday problems that were getting me down. I’m gonna keep practicing mindfulness and other stuff I learned. Every teen should listen to this book. And never thought I’d be excited about doing worksheets, haha, but the ones in the PDF are actually pretty cool. Clear and easy-to-use, and they really help you think through real problems and situations and then make a plan to deal with them in ways that really work.
