Publisher's summary

Rose Barnes has got curves for days—and to Angus Drummond, the big, bearded contractor working on her new house, she's the perfect thorn in his side. Little does she know Angus is perturbed on a daily basis by his attraction to this cheery, smart-ass woman with her sunshiny enthusiasm, her kindness, and her beautiful body.

Angus feels he has a debt to pay to the world and doesn't deserve love until he pays it. Best to keep his mind on his work and his hands to himself. But the more Rose sees of Angus's gruff, honorable thoughtfulness, and the more rusty laughter she surprises from him, the more she wants him too.

As their unlikely friendship becomes love, antagonism turns to partnership, and Rose's house becomes a home. But Rose is keeping a secret that could blow up everything with Angus, and sure enough, it comes to light at the worst possible time…

Great Readers, Amazing Setting

Moher writes a touching romance between two loveable characters in a wonderful town where everyone supports each other. A refreshing, almost Ted Lasso take on the HEA romance. Two excellent narrators too

Male voice is miscast

The story is fine. The female narrator is great as 32-year-old protagonist. Her voice is as versatile as Joy Nash’s. Paul Bellantoni, on the other hand, is too old. The character is supposed to be 36, but he sounds 62. Imagine your grandfather describing going down on his girlfriend. Ew.

As an overweight woman I read this wonderful book!

I so loved this book and I’m hopeful for a next book! I laughed, I cried and laughed some more. Such a great author, Suzanne Brockman was right. Thank you Suzanne!
As a woman that grew up body shamed until I 17 and lost weight met the most amazing, wonderful man in the world and married him. Had half of my thyroid removed right before I got pregnant and was back to the body shaming. My husband didn’t care about my body just like Angus doesn’t. No I haven’t lost weight especially not after having the second half of my thyroid removed and 2 more pregnancies.

Rose's Journey to Life Was Fun To Read

The Narrator for Angus had a cadence to his
voice that I really did not care for. And, although I liked Angus as a character, his behavior toward's the end was a bit too self-centered.

Started out great, steamy scenes were a no for me

First read of the 2024.

The first third of this book was really fun for me. Then the steamy scenes arrived and I really didn't enjoy them. I ended up cringing a lot during them. But that is just me not jiving with that part of the author's writing style. And then I kinda lost the interest.

I liked the characters and I enjoyed that different body types were presented with love and care (additionally, in my head-canon, I see Angus as a plus-size character as well, although I am not sure that is how the author imagined him).

Also, while I am personally not a fan nor really interested in polyamorous relationships and would not have read this book if that was the main love story, I could appreciate the nice casual inclusion of it.

Regarding the two narrators - I thought that Michelle Price was great and I thought that her soft voice really suited Rose well. On the other side, while Paul Bellantoni is a good narrator in my opinion, I felt that his voice made Angus sound 40 years older than Rose, to my ears at least, which made the love story somewhat icky for me (as I had to keep reminding myself that the characters are in fact both in their thirties). That made the steamy scenes even more unpleasant to listen to, as I kept imagining a 20 years old girl with a 60+ years old man, yeesh.

As a conclusion, while I wasn't blown away by it, I liked a lot of things in this story, especially how warmly and gently the author approach any body type, so I am definitely interested in reading more from her.

Great book!

You ever have a book you don’t want to put down and dream of reading by the pool or beachside? This is that book! Narrators are both great too. Note- I always listen at 1.4 speed. It’s more natural and the voices flow in more realistic tone/speed/volume for me.
