Publisher's Summary

The true story behind the major motion picture from Amazon Studios.

Childhood friends from Trinidad, Colin Warner and Carl King grew into men on opposite sides of prison bars after Colin was arrested for murder in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. With no evidence against him, Colin was wrongfully convicted and wrongfully imprisoned for more than two decades. But time and walls could not break the friends' bond. Carl's extraordinary resolve, sacrifice, and courage were Colin's last rays of hope in a harrowing struggle for freedom and justice. Whatever it took, Carl was not going to leave his best friend behind.

Eye opener

This book was well written about a subject that needed writing about. While the narrators didn't speak with the Rastafarian accents of the characters, this worked fine for those of us that aren't exposed to the accent on a regular basis and we could concentrate on the facts involved in this case. This tragedy could have happened to nearly anyone, and even I, a white middle class woman, have found myself afraid enough of our legal system to sincerely worry that this could actually happen to myself or someone that I love. Thank heavens for those who believe in innocence.

Faith goes a long way!

This is not a type of book I would choose, but I'm thankful I did. It opened my eyes to the sad reality of the system and the true love of friends who believe in you and the strength it is needed to persevere to see the right becomes reality. Wow, this could happen in my life and how would I have handled it? Thank you!

Wow!!!

Wow! if each of us has at least 1 friend like Carl in our lives, we are truly blessed! This true friendship that crosses over into family status! The injustice that befell Colin was past the point of ridiculous, but the love of that ne true friend that just wouldn't give up, truly made a difference.

And to think, through all the injustice, Colin nor Carl are not bitter, but better because of it! Wow!!!

Amazing Story of Injustice and Commitment

One man, Collin, is unjustly convicted of murder and another man, his friend Carl, is committed to setting him free. 21 years passed before that injustice could be reversed, and Carl could see Collin set free.

Good example of forgiveness and making a difference

I liked the fortitude of all the characters. How they never gave up. Relying on their faith of what they been taught throughout their life. It’s amazing Colin, had no bitterness. Was grateful for everything, no matter his cost. Grateful to his friend Carl. What a blessing and example of true friendship. Very few people live with the blessing of such a friend. He gave a lot for his friend. Best heart ever. “The more he gives, the more he lives.” If only more in this world could live by this motto. He is an inspiration to me to be better, serve more and sacrifice for those I love or the injustices and suffering of others.

Good listen

Excellently told...a story of injustice about two men that did not give up. A man who kept his integrity when he could have become bitter and unforgiving.

Gripping Story of friendship.

This book highlighted the faults of the justice system & the bias of some folks against other folks. How law enforcement making assumptions & not following every available lead can tragically hurt innocent people. this is story of faith. Unwavering Best love. as well as the power of never giving up & what insurmountable mountains that it can move. Most definitely a story that needs to be read.

Very moving and sad story. Wonderful friend!

This story is one of a friendship that is true and continues to this day. How one friend was railroaded by the justice system and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. As only a true friend would, the other works tirelessly for years to prove his innocence.

Just don’t quit

I really enjoyed this book , it brought tears to my eyes on a few occasions. I like stories about prisons and although this is a true story it didn’t disappoint
