Publisher's summary

FBI special agent Julianna James is a top-notch negotiator who has never lost a hostage. Surely she can manage to take care of her much younger sister, Dottie, who showed up unannounced to live with Julianna while she finished her senior year of high school.

A former sniper with the 75th Ranger Regiment, Clay Snyder left the army after a tragic incident that he can't get past. Now he's working as a high school resource officer until he can figure out what to do with the rest of his life.

Their paths cross when Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation involving Clay's sister. Impressed and a bit intimidated by the calm, capable woman with the dark hair and blue eyes, Clay invites her to speak at his school. Dottie's school.

But as the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna's past approaches, it becomes clear that her perfect record is about to be tested and that Dottie is at risk. If Julianna and Clay can't figure out who's behind the attacks, more innocent people will die—and Julianna just might be one of them.

I love it!

It’s been a while since I’ve read any by Lynette Eason. I’m suddenly remembering why she’s one of my top faves. This was phenomenal! The story was engaging and relavent. The school shooting scenario did hit a little close to home for this teacher, but it was such a good story!

Great story

great story! voices of the characters were sometimes blended together making it difficult to distinguish one voice from another. but otherwise a great job.

Loved it

I liked the characters and the storyline was brilliant. The one thing that threw me was that whenever the story switched to following one particular character the POV changed to first person. I understand that she was trying to differentiate that character for a reason, but I didn’t think the POV change accomplished that.

I enjoyed this one, but it made me nervous

I think the technique of allowing the audience to hear the bad guy’s voice and/or thoughts, is a good way to build the suspense. I got too invested in the main characters and had to skip so I could get over as much angst as possible to enjoy the story. I do plan to go back and listen to the parts I skipped over. I felt this book didn’t use the stupidity on the part of the cops to drive the suspense as much as the previous book did so that made me feel better. Great narration.
