Story
Random House presents the audiobook edition of The House of Hope and Dreams by Trisha Ashley, read by Julia Franklin. When Carey Revell unexpectedly becomes the heir to Mossby, his family’s ancestral home, it’s rather a mixed blessing. The house is large but rundown and comes with a pair of resentful relatives who can’t be asked to leave. Still, newly dumped by his girlfriend and also from his job as a TV interior designer, Carey needs somewhere to lick his wounds. And Mossby would be perfect for a renovation show. He already knows someone who could restore the stained glass windows in the older part of the house….

Story
Alice Rose is a foundling, discovered on the Yorkshire moors above Haworth as a baby. Adopted but then later rejected again by a horrid stepmother, Alice struggles to find a place where she belongs. Only baking - the scent of cinnamon and citrus and the feel of butter and flour between her fingers - brings a comforting sense of home. So it seems natural that when she finally decides to return to Haworth, Alice turns to baking again, taking over a run-down little teashop and working to set up an afternoon tea emporium.

Meg is definitely not in the Christmas mood. She’s never gone in for tinsel, baubles and mistletoe, and right now she’s still getting over an illness. Tina Devino makes more money teaching people to write than writing herself. A middling romance novelist who dreams of penning a best seller, she’s increasingly forced to compete with younger, blonder debut authors for her publisher and agent’s attention. Feeling forgotten, Tina realises the only way up is to take her career and destiny in hand and build her own happy ending - which is perfect because, for a romance writer, Tina isn’t the most traditional of women....

Story
A heartwarming, uplifting village romance for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Cathy Bramley. Buying a thatched cottage in the country may not be the usual cure for a broken heart. But after Clara Maxwell finds out her boyfriend and best friend have been sneaking around behind her back, packing her bags and leaving everything in London behind feels like it's the only way forward. When Henry Garnett, her (rather handsome) new contractor, turns up with his little daughter Pansy and a van shaped like a cottage in tow, she isn't sure whether to laugh or cry.

Story
For Sam Lovell, organising the summer festival in her hometown is one of the highlights of her year. It’s not always smooth sailing, but she loves to see Porthmellow’s harbour packed with happy visitors and being on the committee has provided a much-needed distraction from the drama in her family life (and the distinct lack of it in her love life). When their star guest pulls out with only a few weeks to go, everyone’s delighted when a London chef who grew up locally steps in at the last minute.

Publisher's Summary
Fall in back in love with life in this gripping listen about fate and second chances. The eagerly awaited new novel from the Sunday Times best-selling author.
Thirty-year-old Izzy Sweetwell has a peaceful life. She lives in the sleepy village of Halfhidden with her aunt with her aunt Debo, who runs the local kennels, a home from home for waifs and strays in the area.
You couldn't say that Izzy's life is particularly exciting, but that's just how she likes it, she's bid farewell to a dramatic life since a terrible accident when she was a teenager and for now, she's perfectly content with her aunt and the dogs in Halfhidden.
So what happens when someone forces Izzy to fall in love with life again? Will her painful past stand in the way of her future happiness? Can you make an omlette without breaking a few eggs?

Light & enjoyable
One of those stories where the nice, pleasant folk are well delineated against the nasty, selfish people. Goodness brings the good personalities happiness & all is just & right in the world for them, in the end. Not for some therefore if the reader is after the complexities of the human psyche. But for me it was endearing escapism. 1 annoyance was Narrator's rendition of male voices which made all males sound like Neanderthal half wits; & although some readers might think this to be a truism of Men it was annoying to listen to. Narrator very good with female voices.

Umm.... so slow
Ah, I rarely write a review, least if all a negative one. However this book, for me was painfully slow and unimaginative. On the up side it was not the usual predictable mush. The narrator was also incredibly boring and shallow. Sorry it had great potential but didn’t hit the mark

Not what I expected.
Not what I expected but I am happy it was not!
Having read one of Trisha Ashley’s books before I picked this one at random expecting a love story that would be quite simple and easy.
Here I found some plot twists, a mystery from the past, an impossible relationship and more.
Overall a very enjoyable listen!
