Publisher's Summary

Lack of funding is one of the biggest reasons small businesses fail. In 2016 in the United States alone, more than 31 percent of small business owners reported that they could not access adequate capital, and the lack of capital prevented them from growing the business/expanding operations, increasing inventory, or financing increased sales.

Most business owners believe that their only feasible funding options are (1) savings or personal credit, (2) friends and family, or (3) bank loans. They may have heard about venture capitalists or angel investors, but they don't have enough information about what these investors do, what they can provide for a business, and on what terms. What's worse, entrepreneurs often don't know how to access the people who are looking to put their money into young companies with potential.

Crack the Funding Code will show listeners how to find the money, create pitches that attract investors, and then structure fair, ethical deals that will bring them new sources of outside capital and invaluable professional advice. It will give listeners the broader perspective - how funding works, how investors think, and what they need to hear to put their money where your mouth is.

Great one

Your business. Be professional, cooperative. The assume to find many issues, but it is the way You handle the problems that sets the tone for future. Don’t try to hide anything, e.g. when You have a business relationship gone bad, they will probably find out anyway. If investors ask for data, be quick to answer and send - on this pattern they will estimate all future communications. In the end of the book - a Power Connector test, with recommendations to improve!

Good, but I want more details.

Great book, bit I feel it's incomplete. Please fill the gaps in a single book like you did in power connector.

Useful!

Very effective overview of the basics of fundraising for a company. Reflected a lot of the conventional wisdom I've heard elsewhere, but had a number of useful additional insights.

Superb for a Startup

I have read tens of books on startups/entrepreneurship - however, this masterpiece from Judy Robinett is what I will recommend in my top 5 must reads for a startup. It literally cracks the funding code - which is so critical, especially for startups. You can't grow or even survive in most cases, if you don't get funding within the initial critical time frame. It covers all the important aspects of this game. And the statistics she gives are particularly very insightful and reassuring. They made me tough and better prepared to accept rejections. E.g. a typical VC goes through around 1200 pitches annually, gives serious consideration to 500, shortlists 50 to the next round and finally invests in 10. Of these lucky 10, less than three give exponential returns.
