Publisher's summary

A new world. A new life. A chance to start over.

Through no fault of his own, Joe’s life was starting on a downward spiral. Bad things can happen to good people, but this is not much comfort for those who are treading water, trying not to be drowned by misfortune.

Luckily, sometimes people can catch a break, a chance to start over.

When he's transported to an alternate Earth full of magic, wonder, and light RPG elements, Joe just wants to build a comfortable life. He begins to put down roots and make friends in the port city of Lockwood.

But can he make a home for himself when fire spirits scorch his bathroom, demon dogs trample his rose garden, and countless other magical mayhem threatens his peace?

Don't miss the start of the cozy fantasy LitRPG series that proves that even in the quietest lives, the most dramatic things happen. A recipe gone awry because you lack one important ingredient and you need to make this cake for someone you love for their birthday, which happens to be the next day. Low stakes? Nah.

Now add magic, dragons, spirits, and gods. And Joe.

Joe is a cool guy.

You'll like Joe.

Charming

Light hearted and unabashedly noble. It can be nice to have a kind character walking out gentleness and consideration.

It wasn't great.

Main character was kind of a wimp. Living his life fear of offending anyone around him. Everything was handed to him with no consequence, price, or repercussion. By "everything," I mean his crazy physics breaking power and who doesn't have a random mansion for our whimsical main character?

I don't know if the author was trolling or super high while writing this book, but if you took a shot every time he said "sense of pride," you'd be in the hospital for alcohol poisoning by the end.

I don't think I'll be continuing this series.

Relaxing

If you need a relaxed story with some slice of life than this will be your thing. A good palette cleanser.

good start but fell off towards the end

I understand the main character is a pure soul but there is a difference between a pure soul and a door mat he is spinless and just lets everyone walk all over him
I like these slice of life stories but the character has to have some spine some desire beyond existing for a story to be good

MC has no spine

I love a good slice of life but man the Mc is just walked all over. It’s one tho by to be nice and help everyone but to be taken advantage of and then given nothing but be taken advantage of again. Like come on. And he is never upset about it. He is walked on and thrown dirt at and then thanks them for being his friends. Not even a thought that might justify this. Just to be clear the above is metaphorical not an actual scene.

A Fun listen

I liked every thing about this story. The narrator was spot on.he made the chractors come to life. This was a good audio presentation, well worth the the money spent.
So much so that I have purchased book two and eagerly awaiting book 3.

A good story that just wasn’t for me.

The writing is great and easy to read. The characters are lovable and interesting. There are only two real problems. The world feels hollow and two dimensional, which is hard to avoid with such a small town focus. The other problem is that the main character is a lazy pacifist. He is constantly worried about offending someone or getting rich, to the point that he barely uses his cheat power. He seems like a nice guy, and I like him just fine, but listening to this was kinda like hearing a middle aged mommas boy explain why he was just fine living alone in his parents basement. Felt like a lot of half considered excuses to avoid self improvement or risk. It’s someone’s fantasy and I respect that, but this one wasn’t for me.

Good story

I liked the narration and the story itself, but I have issues with Joe's thought process. He's given skills that would allow him to excel at different trades and jobs yet he is ends up going down the rabbit hole on how he would end up hurting another's business even though there would normally be multiple businesses creating competition. His inability to have a backbone allows the guilds to make an agreement with him so that he can't work with others outside the town, and he gets no answer from them on work. He worries about the safety of his friends yet has a hard rule on not working on weapons. Frankly, I find Joe a bit week willed and too much of a pacifist.

great book but...

I'm so freaking irritated that every single side character he meets is such a A**Hole and only after a bunch of explaining are they finally polite and no one apologizes for being a D**k even the damn dog is an A**Hole. arrrrrgghhhhhhhhh..... but it really is a good book over all just some of the characters irritate me beyond belief.
