But when she meets the outcast Dadaist sculptor Jack Klinger, a much older man who has already been living in Costalegre for some time, Lara thinks she might have found the love and understanding she so badly craves.

Wonderful story!

Loved the story, and the characters are deep and complex. I enjoyed it so much I didn’t want it to end!

A troubled girl in paradise

An imaginative portrait of teen angst set against the exotic coast of Mexico where the ocean is frightful and so is the ensemble of artists hiding away during the war. Maum gives us lightly drawn characters, deeply flawed and relentlessly decadent, who indulge themselves without regard for the young woman among them who struggles for her own identity in their oblivion. No one is flattered in the telling, which makes it a satisfying read.

Incredible Idea, beautiful writing, yet lacking

This book is such a fun escape into an era that needs wayyyyyyyy more art to bring it to life. I want more Peggy Guggenheim and Leonora Carrington inspired fiction. But I wish this had gone deeper. Been edited in revision just a little more. So close.
